Police on the Hunt for Escapee from Lookout Mountain Youth Services Center
Golden Police are investigating the escape and disappearance of a resident at the Lookout Mountain Youth Services Center in Golden early this morning. CodeRed alerts were sent out to the surrounding neighborhoods during the morning hours.
Here are the details from the press release from the Colorado Department of Human Services:
A youth at Lookout Mountain Youth Services Center was reported missing from his room shortly after midnight on Tuesday. The youth, Quinn Scaggs, (dob 071901) is considered a violent offender.
Golden Police responded and managed the search of the campus and surrounding area and will be conducting the criminal investigation. The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office performed a K9 search, and the Boulder Police Department utilized a drone in the search, but Scaggs was not located. Through the search, it was discovered that Scaggs removed the window from his ground floor room and used bed sheets tied together to escape over the perimeter fence.
Scaggs is 6'2", 160 pounds with blond hair and blue eyes. He has a tattoo above his right eyebrow that reads: "Loyalty". If Scaggs is seen, please call 911.
Lookout Mountain Youth Services Center, located in Golden, is an intensive, secured treatment program for 140 male juvenile offenders. LMYSC provides for the care and supervision of youth committed by the District Court to the custody of the CDHS Division of Youth Services.

Police Department Citizens Academy now accepting applications!
The Golden Police Citizens Academy offers citizens an opportunity to
learn what police officers and police employees do in the performance of their duties and the rules and laws that guide them.
The Academy combines classroom presentations with hands-on activities to provide the participants with a comprehensive experience.
Throughout the course of the Academy, participants will be exposed to K9 patrol, drug enforcement, traffic accident investigations, communications, patrol duties and realities, DUI traffic enforcement, the Jefferson County Regional SWAT team, a tour of the Jefferson County Jail, crime scene investigations, firearms simulator, taser and driving track training.
The 2019 Citizens Academy will run from August 28 through November 6 with graduation on November 13. Participants will meet from 6 to 9 p.m. on Wednesdays, and two Saturdays for firing range and driving track training. Applications are open now and available on the City of Golden website under Volunteer Opportunities.
The Golden Police Department began conducting an Adult Citizens Police Academy in 1995. We felt that exposing citizens to knowledge about police work would help them to better understand and relate to police involvement in the community. Our hope is that the graduates of the Citizens Academy will share this knowledge with others in the community.

Tomorrow is Bike to Work Day
Leave your keys at home and don't spend a cent to fill up the gas tank. Bike to Work Day is June 26 and there are two great stations in Golden you won't want to miss. That morning from 6:30 - 9 a.m., visit the City of Golden station at 1010 Washington Ave. in front of the Golden Visitors Center and grab breakfast burritos, snacks and other giveaways. Then, after work, bike over to Big Ring Cycling (600 12th St.) from 5 - 7:30 p.m. to visit their "after-work party station".

Golden Bicycle Cruise - Cartoon Characters
Bike by Acme? You'll fit right in this month's Golden Bicycle Cruise! Dress as your favorite cartoon character and join all the other animated riders for a fun bike ride with music and food.
Golden-based New Terrain Brewing Company will pour two local brews, while Jackie and the Racket provides the music. Bob's Atomic Burgers will provide food. If you plan on purchasing food or drinks, please note that this is a cash-only event.
There are prize drawings for adults and kids during every ride. Adults earn prize tickets with the purchase of beer, and kids can earn tickets by (1) showing up (2) wearing a costume and/or (3) bringing nonperishable food donations for a local food pantry.
The family-friendly event, sponsored by the Golden Community Commons group, takes place on the last Tuesday of the month, May through September. Gather tonight, June 25 at 6 p.m. in the parking lot next to the library (1019 10th Street) for music, food and beer. Ride starts at 7 p.m. and ends back at the library lot where the fun continues until 9:30 p.m.

The Public Art Commission (PAC) will meet Thursday, June 27 at 9 a.m. in Council Chambers, 911 10th St. Please note, this meeting was rescheduled from its original meeting date of July 4.
At the meeting, PAC will consider the following items:

- Citywide mural project
- Signal box project

Public Hearing on City Civic Center Lease Purchase Agreement
The City will conduct a public hearing on
Thursday, June 27 at 4 p.m. to consider information concerning the execution and delivery by the City of a Lease Purchase Agreement of the 160,000 square foot office building on a 3.5 acre parcel of land located at 311 Tenth Street. The City plans to turn the building into a Civic Center.

3rd Annual Golden Summer Jam
The 3rd Annual Summer Jam, sponsored by the Golden Civic Foundation, features live music, food and fun for all ages. The goal of this summertime event is to connect with Golden families and residents, promote community involvement and celebrate Golden's small town, friendly atmosphere.
When: June 27, 5:30 - 9:30 p.m.
Where: Colorado Railroad Museum
The evening will feature live music by Dorado, Bowregard and The Great Salmon Famine, three bands with Golden connections. Attendees will also have the chance to explore the Colorado Railroad Museum's scenic, 15-acre railyard that is home to more than 100 locomotives, passenger cars and cabooses. Guests can enjoy a ride on the Galloping Goose Railway and also delight in the charm of a fully operational miniature garden railway.
Local non-profit partners will be on-site to offer family-oriented activities including the Colorado Mountain Club with their popular Bouldering Bus, and a bouncy house provided by the Golden Backpack Program and The Drake Durkee Foundation. Food and beverage will be sold by New Terrain Brewing Co. (beer), Ace Liquor (wine), Bob's Atomic Burgers, the Crock Spot and Moontime Crepes food trucks.
Tickets to the Golden Summer Jam are $20 for adults and free for youth under 18 (maximum 2 free per family) and are
available online. Each adult ticket includes one complimentary New Terrain beer. Event proceeds will support the Golden Civic Foundation, a 501(c)(3) Non-Profit Organization. All ticket sales are final and tickets to this event are non-refundable.

Carriage Rides - most Friday and Saturday afternoons throughout the summer from 4 to 8 p.m. A station will be set up on the north side of 12th St. from Washington to Miners Alley and will occupy parking lanes.

July 1-5 (with the exception of July 4) 601 Washington Ave - lanes will be impacted by potholing. The purpose is to identify vertical depths of utilities for future directional boring permits.

A parking lane will be impacted during a new driveway cut at 223 Arapahoe through July 7.

Parking lanes and sidewalks may be impacted this week in the area of 831 Pine Ridge Rd. due to the installation of water and sanitary sewer services.

The closure of 17th St. between Washington to Jackson for construction staging and access for CSM's project at 1750 Jackson St has been extended.

Arapahoe St. between 13th and 14th (in front of Calvary Episcopal Church) has been extended until the beginning of August. Due to the construction activity parking spaces will also be lost during this time.

Concrete Replacement Program
Fasick Concrete Is nearing completion in the Hogback and Brickyard areas. Concrete replacement is complete and backfill and cleanup efforts continue. They will move on to Ridge Rd. from Mesa Dr. to Norman St. and Normans St. from Ridge Rd. to Ptarmigan St., 10th St. from Cheyenne St. to Maple St. and Washington Ave. from 10th to 11th. They are replacing damaged or deficient concrete as well as ADA upgrades. Work in the area is expected to take two weeks.

Washington Complete Street Project
Paving in Phase 3 (2nd Street to 6th Street) is complete and the road is now open. Landscaping in Phase 3 continues, with work on 7th St. nearing completion. We anticipate all phases of the project to be wrapped up by the end of June.
