Homeless & Emergency Shelter Workshop
More than 30 agencies came together for a community-wide meeting to discuss the services available for the homeless population in Calloway County. We were able to share lots of valuable information about Opportunity House, the new transitional housing apartments provided by the MCC Homeless Coalition. As well as, the partnership between the Homeless Coalition and Gentry House.
Residents of Calloway County who are facing homelessness will be able to apply for housing and emergency assistance at the Gentry House office. Each applicant will then be connected to the most appropriate program for their needs. Everyone who receives assistance from Gentry House or MCC Homeless Coalition will be connected to intensive case management with the ultimate goal of establishing self-sufficiency and financial stability. A large part of the financial stability training will come from the MCC United Way's financial literacy program. Clients will be referred to partner agencies across Calloway County to help meet their immediate needs; while at the same time, working with Gentry House staff to take steps towards continued success and independence.
The collaborative efforts and unity of each of the agencies represented shows the resolve and determination of our community to continue serving the homeless and low-income population of Calloway County. By working together, we are able to make a greater impact and provide a wider range of services to those in need.
