MassChallenge HealthTech Finale

On June 25,
MassChallenge
, a global network of zero-equity startup accelerators, awarded more than $200,000 in cash prizes to six elite digital health startups as part of the 2019 MassChallenge HealthTech Finale.
To select this year’s prize winners, MassChallenge HealthTech tapped healthcare industry experts to evaluate each startup based on their ability to demonstrate traction, growth, and impact. Over the six month accelerator program, 31 startups partnered with industry leaders to solve some of healthcare’s massive challenges.

, the Massachusetts Executive Office of Elder Affairs served as the Champion for
GoGoGrandparent
in the MassChallenge HealthTech program. ”Our experience with MassChallenge got us to the heart of health care: Boston, MA." said
Justin Boogaard, co-founder of GoGoGrandparent.
"We were told by so many people that we have an opportunity to make a huge impact on healthcare just by getting people to appointments... but it just hadn’t clicked for us how important it was, and that would have never happened had it not been for this program."
GoGoGrandparent was one of two Platinum Award Winners and received $40,000 at the Finale event.
Four Massachusetts companies took home prizes at the MassChallenge HealthTech Finale event. 1upHealth, a patient data aggregation platform, took home not one but two awards, including the big $100,000 Diamond Award. Other winners include Pixm, a cybersecurity startup focused on stopping phishing attacks and Marigold Health, a text-based group therapy app. Harvard Pilgrim Health Care received the inaugural “Champion of the Year Award”.

New HIE Resources on MeHI

To promote the use of health information exchange (HIE) and interoperability, the MeHI website features new
educational resources
and webinar recordings related to HIE, Mass HIway, and HIway Utilization and Adoption Support (HAUS) Services.
The resources
address the technical and clinical aspects of HIE, and support care providers in enrolling with the Mass HIway (the Massachusetts HIE). For instance, the content highlights care coordination based on HIE, explains how Direct Messaging works, and includes a
HIway Toolkit
.
The resources also detail
HAUS Services
, which are sponsored by the Mass HIway. Through these services,
HIway Account Managers
act as a project resource to enable healthcare organizations to
optimize their use of HIE in their care coordination workflows. The Account Managers assist organizations with project management,
development of
HIE use cases
,
and process improvement. The services are offered
free-of-charge.

MeHI Job Opening: Program Associate

MeHI is seeking candidates to apply for the role of Program Associate to support the projects and programs within the Massachusetts Digital Health Initiative.
The Program Associate is responsible for assisting with program operations, which include strategic planning, business analysis, topical research and reporting, and all necessary analytical, technical and administrative processes. S/he assists with developing and coordinating all program-related activities, including stakeholder communication, outreach and inquiries.

Process Improvement Workshop
|
|
Join us for a free Process Improvement Workshop to improve Meaningful Use (MU), health information exchange (HIE), or other clinical care practices.
The goal of the workshop is to provide you with broadly applicable tools to improve your MU and HIE practices and workflows. The content is people and process-oriented, and only touches lightly on technical aspects. You'll engage in discussions to share your own experiences, team-building activities to get to know the other participants, and hands-on exercises to select and address process challenges of interest to the group.
The Process Improvement Workshop consists of
two in-person sessions
presented at MeHI’s Weiss Conference Center in Westborough, MA. A light breakfast and lunch will be served. As the first session prepares you for the second, we advise you to attend both sessions. We also encourage you to attend with multiple people from your organization.

Learning Collaborative on Query HIE
|
|
For our Fall 2019 Learning Collaborative, we plan to focus on query-based health information exchange. We are seeking participants from a variety of settings, including hospitals, ambulatory care providers, and behavioral health providers, to offer their experiences and perspectives. We invite representatives from organizations that currently use query functionality, and organizations that don’t yet use it, but are interested in learning more about it.

|
We will provide an overview of Query HIE and how it can be used, and discuss challenges related to issues like document types and patient consent. Out of these discussions of the real world issues, we plan to create several work products to help guide future discussions and decisions about Query HIE, such as workflow diagrams, sample use cases, FAQs, and/or best practices.

Reminder: 2015 Edition CEHRT
|
|
To participate in the Medicaid EHR Program for 2019,
Eligible Professionals (EPs) must upgrade to the 2015 Edition of Certified EHR Technology (CEHRT) as soon as possible. The 2015 Edition CEHRT must be installed and used
for the entirety of the selected 90-day EHR reporting period.
The 2015 Edition CEHRT functionality is required for EPs to meet Meaningful Use
Stage 3 requirements. If your EPs have not yet upgraded, start the process now, before it's too late. If EPs don’t upgrade to the 2015 CEHRT Edition before
October 3rd, they won’t be able to attest to Program Year 2019.

Soldier's Homes Issue RFI for EMR
|
|
The Commonwealth’s two Soldiers’ Homes, in Chelsea and Holyoke, recently released a request for information (RFI) for an electronic medical record (EMR). The Soldiers’ Homes serve veterans in need of skilled nursing (SNF) and/or long-term care (LTC), as well as veterans needing long-term, affordable housing. Information gained though this RFI will help the Soldiers’ Home EMR Implementation Team to refine their procurement of an EMR system for the MA Soldiers’ Homes.
