Kristen Ollila Completes Her AmeriCorps Service Year

We are at once delighted and saddened to announce that Kristen Ollila has completed her AmeriCorps service year. For the past year, Kristen has supported two departments at MANNA as Youth Program and Agency Relations Assistant. Through her work with Youth Programs, she helped develop an innovative school pantry model and strengthened the MANNA Packs for Kids program. Most of these packs contain canned good products, and, after seeing a need, Kristen launched a can opener drive and delivered almost 2,000 can openers to school children in Western North Carolina. Kristen has also played an indelible role in the success of the Agency Relations Department, particularly in administering MANNA’s fridge and freezer donation program in collaboration with Thermo Fisher Scientific, helping to match over 150 units to partner agencies. She has been a passionate and enthusiastic advocate for our partners and neighbors in need, especially for the one in six children experiencing food insecurity in our region.
Kristen says, “Our partner agencies inspire me and make me know that world is a better place because of them.” Kristen is embarking on a new adventure in Nashville in August. Please join us in wishing her all the best!

In Memory of Ruth C. Dayton
|
The MANNA network lost a beloved member in June. Ruth C. Dayton ran the food pantry at Beulah Baptist Church in Canton for many years. She served those in need with great concern and compassion. In addition to her work in the food pantry, Mrs. Ruth also sang in the choir, was a cherished Sunday School teacher, and proudly served on many other church committees. Mrs. Ruth also loved working in her flower and vegetable gardens, and delighted in sharing her knowledge of canning with family and friends. She is greatly missed by all those blessed to know her.

Please be aware that this is a change in our open shopping time from 1-3pm to 12-2pm. Swing by any day if you’re in the area and take some extra bread and produce back to your organization.

Important Inventory Reminders!

To ensure that our inventory count lines up with what we are actually distributing to our partner network, we ask that you all make sure to check the following when you receive or pick up your order from MANNA:
- Check that product ordered (from your invoice) matches physical count of items you received
- Pay close attention to TEFAP items especially, and make sure you receive accurate amounts of each item. Any TEFAP leftovers should always be directly reported to MANNA.
- If there are any discrepancies in inventory vs. what was actually ordered, please contact Glenda Gragg (x1227) or Tim Williams (x1240).

REMINDERS:
Before dialing up the driver, remember: Every time someone calls, they must pull off the road to answer the phone, causing additional delays. If you have any questions, contact our Warehouse Manager Lee Short at (828) 299-3663 x1260.
Please ask your volunteers to allow a 30 minute window before and after your expected MANNA delivery. Our drivers work very hard to arrive on time, but they may experience unforeseen setbacks while on the road. Giving them this window helps them to stay on track.
