Steve Alten's January 2020 Newsletter: MEG-2 & The Loch Movie Updates, & More!
From author Steve Alten:

Over the last 23 years I have written 18 thrillers including several NY Times and international best-sellers. I have also completed several dozen stories that have NEVER been read by fans, publishers or producers. Not because they weren’t good enough; in fact many of these tales are among my personal favorites (I entered several of them in contests just for shits and giggles and they either won or were semi-finalists). The scripts have simply been waiting on the back-burner for the MEG movie to hit theaters (little did I know it would take 22 years - God bless you Belle Avery) while the unfinished novels had to be put aside temporarily in order to expedite other contracted books, or they were sequels waiting for the dramatic options on the first book to be optioned in The MEG’s mighty wake.

In addition to making available this never-before-read treasure-trove of Steve Alten stories I have initiated a pet project of updating and enhancing each of my novels in a way that would create an entirely different reading experience. Take GOLIATH. The novel was written back in 2002 during the U.S. invasion of Iraq. Fast-forward and all of the dictators executed by Simon Covah are already dead. Last year I updated the novel because it was being pitched as a movie (thumbs-up) but my U.S. and international publishers won’t do a reprint until the movie is being filmed. At the same time, several talented graphic artists who are fans of the book created some amazing color images and videos of the Goliath that would enhance the reading of the new text. One problem: It’s way too expensive for either me or my publishers to print, nor can it be formatted and sold as an ebook.

But I can allow you to read my customized copy for free… in my private library.

Members pay only $12.95 a month. Price is locked down as long as they continue to renew and covers access to all present and future site offerings, events, merchandise discounts, movie ticket giveaways, and much more.

WHY AM I CHARGING A MONTHLY MEMBERSHIP FEE?

Each one of these projects represents six months to a year or more of hard work. If the work was published you’d pay $10 – $28 or more to read it. Same thing here – only you’ll receive so much more. In essence, it’s like belonging to a Book of the Month Club, hosted by the best-selling author. (Access to the Members Only Library holding the special editions of my novels is FREE (a $200 - $600 value).

The monthly fee also helps offset the costs of a new treatment to combat my Parkinson’s Disease. I was diagnosed 13 years ago at the age of 47, and it can be a bear. Unlike prescription medicines which can cause debilitating side-effects, the extract is natural, has no harmful side effects, and allows me to feel semi-normal for a few precious hours at a time… so thank you!

Of course you can cancel at anytime… but knowing what I have to offer and the projects in the works, I’m betting you’ll be visiting the website every day for many years to come.

Movie Updates
As mentioned above, four more of my novels have been optioned for TV & movies. In their anticipated order of moving into production we have The LOCH and MEG-2: The TRENCH . I hear the script of the latter is far more intense (as the plot of the novel was) that MEG. As for the last two books - I cannot say at this time - but you won't be disappointed.

Featured story of the month on TSAP: Stranglehold
A detective, accused of murder, must resolve a childhood trauma in order to track down the real killer.

Synopsis

A bad neighborhood in Philadelphia. A high rise occupied by the poor and destitute, prostitutes and pushers - drugs courtesy of the Latino gangs. A wino occupies a garbage-strewn hallway. Meet Santino “Sonny” Rizzo. Burnt-out Philly detective on a stakeout. His partner whispers into his radio earpiece: “Sonny, three Bloods just arrived. One in the van, two on their way up – wait for back-up!”

Two visitors – harbingers of death - regard the wino. They knock on the apartment door Cherry Lanis, Latino King drug dealer wo has been stealing from the Bloods. They break in.

Sonny waits. Hears a scream. Enters. Takes out one sociopath. Follows a short hall to a bedroom. Hears the second perp in the bathroom. Sees the Latino woman’s body on the bed – the phone cord looped around her neck.

He drops to his knees, the room spinning as the murderer exits the bathroom. “What the--?”

Sonny opens his eyes. He’s lying on the floor. Sees a Latino kid - maybe all of ten. His face – a mask of rage. He’s holding Sonny’s gun. Drops it. Takes off running. Moments later the cops arrive, along with his partner Neil. Sees the Blood – not just dead - his face blown off. Sonny says it wasn’t him. Describes the kid who saved his life.

Bad news: The dead gang member is kin to Big Daddy, leader of the Bloods. He’ll soon learn Sonny’s gun did the deed.

This is not Detective Santino Rizzo’s first rodeo; he has a history of using excessive force. The lady D.A. is running for Mayor; she’s sees Rizzo as a lightning rod to attract black voters. Sonny is charged with murder...

Joke Of The Month
A father asked his ten year old son if he knew about the birds and the bees. "I don't want to know," the child said, bursting into tears. "Promise me you won't tell me." The father was perplexed. "Why don't you want to know?"

When I was six, I got the 'there's no Easter Bunny speech.' When I was seven, I got the 'there's no Tooth Fairy' speech. When I was eight, you hit me with there being no Santa. If you're going to tell me that grown-ups don't really get laid, I have nothing to live for!"
