Using videos, realistic vignettes, and interactive exercises, this module provides guidance to clinicians about engaging family members and others in the care of suicidal individuals.
As a result of completing this module, learners will be able to:
- Recognize best approaches to how clinicians working with suicidal individuals may go about engaging family and /or friends
- Demonstrate ability to obtain consent in order to engage family and/or friends
- Discuss how to best approach the family/friends and inquire about engagement
- Summarize psychoeducation regarding suicidal risk and prevention
- Identify best practices for tending to family stress while attending to the patient
- Explain how loved ones can play a role in supporting the treatment of a suicidal family member
- Utilize the Shared Decision-Making Approach for engaging family members in various treatment settings
