Carmelle Cadet
Chief Executive Officer / Founder, EMTECH

Ms. Cadet is an experienced Finance and Business Leader in the Enterprise IT sector, with specializations in the Financial Services, Treasury Management, and Blockchain Technologies. As former IBM Finance and Business Executive Ms. Cadet managed multi-million software portfolios, while delivering over 100% year over year revenue growth. EMTECH’s success in driving sustainable businesses reflects her solid practical experience and leadership as well as her solid educational and formalized training including an MBA from New York University. Carmelle was also named NYC Fintech Women’s Inspiring Fintech Females 2019. EMTECH, a Modern Central Bank Technology Company reflects Ms. Cadet’s strategic focus on promoting public sector initiatives to create public private sector profitability and more efficient financial market infrastructure. As a thought leader in the Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) space, Carmelle engages with Central Banks from the U.S. to Africa and the Caribbean to enable their transition to the digital currency era in an inclusive way. Successes over the past three years, include developing strategic partnerships with industry partners including Microsoft Cloud technology. Wadeeha Jackson
Head of Compliance/Operations, HXRO

Wadeeha is a dynamic regulatory strategist and advisor with over 15 years in Anti-Money Laundering (AML), regulatory sanctions, and risk mitigation. As an effective problem solver and compliance officer, she's worked for investment retail banking institutions like HSBC Bank and TD Bank, auditing the operational effectiveness of compliance programs. Wadeeha's advanced knowledge and valuable experience have been sought out by reputable establishments, leading her to work with major corporations and Fortune 500 companies. There, she developed risk-based compliance programs and organic growth initiatives, enhancing profitability by increasing revenues and saving on costs. In 2017 Wadeeha expanded her career to cryptocurrency, working with companies like Grant Thornton and Coinbase. She's served as an advisor for startups within the crypto space, helping them navigate AML risk and regulatory scrutiny; she even led the first Bitcoin anti-money laundering audit for Grant Thornton. Now, Wadeeha works for Hxro, a crypto trading platform that simplifies trading cryptocurrency. Outside of the office, she is passionate about volunteering. Wadeeha served as President and Board Chair (2017-2019) for Greater Newark CARES, an organization dedicated to mentoring children. Currently, she serves as a volunteer for CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate), helping youth in Essex County, New Jersey. Wadeeha loves being in positions where she can add value to organizations and assist young professionals in their career paths. When not mastering crypto or being an active helper to her community, Wadeeha enjoys cooking, researching healthy alternative recipes, and traveling.

Cleve Mesidor
Founder, National Policy Network WOC Blockchain

Cleve Mesidor leads the National Policy Network of Women of Color in Blockchain. She is also a consultant for the Blockchain Association. Mayor Muriel Bowser has appointed her to the DC Innovation and Technology Inclusion Council. A Washington insider, she previously served as an Obama Presidential Appointee, a senior staffer in Congress, and in the leadership of national political campaigns. In March 2021, she organized the National Briefing of Women of Color in Blockchain, which featured six Members of Congress and a delegation of over 60 female industry leaders. Cleve is a Howard University alumna and author of “THE CLEVOLUTION: My Quest for Justice in Politics & Crypto.”

Shanah Walton
Cryptocurrency Onboarding Coach, Bitcoin Bombshell LLC

Shanah Walton, p/k/a “Bitcoin Bombshell” is a native New Yorker, content creator, event planner and rising leader in the cryptocurrency space. Passionate and driven, she organizes events to provide access to information necessary for potential cryptocurrency investors. Prior to the pandemic, her well attended monthly meet up Cocktails & Crypto, was a women led, inclusive initiative built to generate greater engagement and visibility of Black people in the cryptocurrency world. Utilizing her social media channels, Bitcoin Bombshell educates and coaches her intended demographic by sharing small palatable bites of information with the intention of piquing her audience’s curiosity. Additionally, she offers consultations, hosts webinars and her website www.bitcoinbombshell.com is designed to be an onboarding resource for those who are ready to learn more and start their investment journey. Her hope is that with every effort she takes to engage underrepresented communities, digital currency and distributed technologies, like blockchain, are viewed as a valuable commodity and made accessible to all.

Jay Kao
Vice-President, Legal & Compliance, The D. E. Shaw Group

Jay Kao is a vice president of D. E. Shaw & Co., L.P. and a member of the D. E. Shaw group’s Legal & Compliance department. Ms. Kao advises on a range of transactions for the firm’s alternative investment strategies, including swaps, securities lending, and prime brokerage. Prior to joining the firm in 2012, she was an associate in the derivatives and structured products group at Davis Polk & Wardwell LLP. Ms. Kao is a member of the D. E. Shaw group's Diversity & Inclusion Committee and a founder of its Black affinity group, Black@DESCO. Ms. Kao received her B.S. in elementary education from the University of Maryland and a J.D. from Harvard Law School, where she was editor in chief of the Harvard BlackLetter Law Journal. Outside of work, Ms. Kao is an angel investor for start-ups with a social impact, a board member for Birthright AFRICA, and a proud mother to a young son.
