Message from our
Managing Director
Welcome to the first edition of our new newsletter! The format may have changed but our commitment to keeping you in the loop remains. Each newsletter will highlight an interesting story or event from our rich 70+ years of history and provide information on
upcoming events
.
We will incorporate reports from our Board of Directors with my reports on our operations. One source – all the news.
And yes, I did use the “change” word. For some this word is exciting but for others it can elicit feelings of apprehension and doubt. My family and I picked up our lives in Toronto and moved across the country so I get it!
However, I am encouraged daily by my interactions with everyone I meet at our Centre. Since joining Naramata Centre in early June, I have been humbled by the number of people who have shared their Naramata story with me. I have also been inspired by the level of enthusiasm expressed for what our future holds. My promise to you is that we will honour those memories. From outreach to programming to redevelopment, we will weave your stories into the fabric of our unfolding future. Let's start with our willow...
share your stories.

It was a busy four days combining our board meeting and Annual General Meeting with the Design Charrette led by MODUS and Landform Architects to develop a new site plan for the Centre.
The site plan will lead us to decisions about which land to sell - and what use will be made of that land and the land we keep.

Naramata Roots
Thanksgiving weekend Naramata Centre will be hosting
Naramata Roots
, a program for youth from 9 – 16 years old.
Naramata Roots
is an opportunity for personal growth in a setting of circus performance and acro movement to facilitate conscious growth, while fostering mental and physical health and well being. We will also explore environmental issues in our community and develop sustainable practices that we can take home, creating positive impact today.
While youth are participating in Naramata Roots, parents are encouraged to stay at the Centre and join us for our
Fall Hearts and Hands
program. We will then all come together Sunday evening to enjoy a community potluck Thanksgiving dinner.

A message from our
Programs and Community Experiences Manager
2019 has been an exciting year as we continue to run more programs in the Spring, Summer and Fall seasons. We are building new partnerships and successfully launching new programs. All of our programs live our mission of "inspiring individual and collective transformation in a safe, inclusive, sacred space."
We are developing an even broader, inclusive and diverse program calendar for 2020 and we are excited to share it with you in the coming months.

July is cherry month here in the valley, so we thought it would be fitting to offer our readers a recipe from one of our local farmers. Naramata resident and cherry guru Peggy Evans has graciously offered to share one of her favorite recipes with us

Hearts and Hands
"Working with like minded people, caressing the grounds of this sacred space - what could be better? We always talk about “giving back”, and this felt so tangible, like we really were contributing. I’m so grateful for the experience, the exercise and the wonderful people we met."
Mary Richardson
Hearts and Hands volunteers donate their time in the Spring and the Fall to clean up and maintain the grounds and buildings, which provide an inspiring, safe and inclusive space for over 2,000 participants every year. Whether you enjoy weeding, cleaning, nailing, painting or raking - there is a need and a place for you! We provide free accommodation, the opportunity to meet new friends and gather in community with old friends.
