Registration for South Loop Elementary for fall 2019 is open for neighborhood residents (those living north side of 18th Street to Wacker drive; east of the river to the lake).  Documents needed for registration are included on the school website. Electric Scooter Pilot Program
The city chose 10 companies to run a four-month, 2,500 electric scooter pilot and launched a quickie education plan to persuade Chicago residents and visitors to abide by the rules of the road. The 10 companies  will each be granted 250 scooters to operate within a 50-square mile test area bounded by Halsted Street and the Chicago River on the east; Irving Park Road on the north; Harlem and the city limits on the west and the Chicago River on the south.
During the four-month test, users will be free to "access the scooters wherever it is legal to lock a bike in the public way," according to City Hall. For more information, see

Chicago PD 1st District Community Policing Strategic Plan
The Office of Community Policing has supported Districts in the creation of Community Policing Strategic Plans which outline a District's core crime reduction priorities, community engagement and collaborative community-building goals over the course of a year. The plans were developed in close collaboration with community members, who shared their input and feedback during two different community conversations held in each District throughout Chicago. Below is a section of the 1st District's plan as it relates to Community Driven Approaches.

Bee Keepers Collect Swarm of Bees on South Loop Newspaper Box
In the days immediately preceding the Lit Fest, a bystander saw a swarm of bees and sent out a call for help on Facebook; beekeepers responded. The beekeepers believe the bees were searching for a new home, and once they got the queen in the hive, the rest followed.  Click here for the video of the CBS news segment.
Live Local - Shop Local
The South Loop is a vibrant neighborhood and as it continues to grow, it becomes increasingly more important  for residents to support local small businesses. The benefits of shopping local are documented through a number of  studies.

South Loop Neighbors especially urge residents to shop at local businesses that have partnered with the South Loop  Neighbors as Community Builders. Community Builders are businesses that are members of the SLN and who  recognize that a partnerships between SLN and local businesses creates an optimal environment for our neighborhood  to maintain and increase the vibrancy of the South Loop!  Please visit our website to learn more about our Community Builders.
