February 2019

Winter walks  and starlit nights, g ood books and cozy hours,  time for friends,  and heartfelt sharing, d reams of springtime flowers...
Although it might be short on days, e ach February brings  the simple little gifts we count  among life's precious things.

On February 2nd a groundhog named  Punxsutawney Phil emerged from his home in the hopes of seeing his shadow. However, there was no shadow to be seen on this day and as the legend goes, we're in for an early spring! But with another storm forecast to roll in later this week were a little dubious of the groundhogs prediction. That being said better get those lease agreements and work orders submitted just in case he's right. Here's some of whats been going on around the marina this month.

At the end of January we sent the boys down to Sunny(ish) Florida to the International Marine and Boatyard Conference. The IMBC  is geared specifically toward marina and boatyard owners; operators and managers; as well as dock masters; harbormasters; boat builders and repairers; and industry consultants. IMBC is where dedicated marine professionals gather to exchange information, talk about the future of the industry, and get down to business! They came back excited and ready to implement some fresh ideas they gained from the conference. Stay tuned!

Ice Castles

Time is winding down, if you haven't gotten to see the Ice Castles yet better get there soon. The Castles will be on display until early March. A few staff members checked them out a couple weeks ago and they are worth the visit.

From the Crow's Nest

Hello there! This is that tricky time of year when I must remind myself that we have two more months of winter before the fun begins up here in the high country. It's OK! Snow = water and water = fun up here in Dillon, CO. It's been a great winter. There is good news for all of Colorado with above average snow-pack throughout the State. With normal weather patterns there is now a greater than 98% refill probability for Dillon Reservoir.

The reservoir is currently sitting at 8,990 ft or 26 feet below full.  We will see it drop a little bit more before the Spring runoff starts rolling off the hills then hopefully we'll be chillin' at 9017' in June. I don't want to count chickens before they hatch but since I'm not skiing this season (knee is doing great by the way) I have time for chicken counting.

All of this has me excited for the summer. As a reminder, now is the time to block off all Thursday evenings throughout Summer 2019 for the Thursday Night Racing Series. This is a casual, fun sailing series that took off like wildfire last year with a total fleet of 37 by the end of summer.
Not a sailor but want to try? Show up for the Captain's meeting, 5:15pm at the Tiki Bar and we'll find a boat looking for crew. Not a sailor and don't want to try? Show up anyway and have fun with your fellow boaters. It's like community softball meets yachting but without softballs.

I hope you have all had a great February. Do everything that Shannon says! As always, if there is anything we can do please don't hesitate to contact us. I'll be here counting chickens.

Have a great March!

-Craig Simson

P.S. I just read what I wrote and it's obvious that I was painting in the shop today.

Retail and Renewals...
It's what the month of February is all about.

This coming weekend, Suzanne, Karlee and I will head to Denver for the  Apparel and Accessory Market, where we'll scope out all the new merchandise for the marina store. I'll be honest, it's one of my favorite jobs, if you can call it that. I mean who doesn't like getting paid to shop? If you have ideas you want us to look for, be sure and let us know!

Also coming up is the  2019 Renewal Deadline!
Yes, it's that special time of year when, if you haven't submitted your renewal, you start getting annoying emails from me, asking if you're planning to join us this summer. Customers on the wait list are anxiously awaiting word about a slip, so please let me know if you're not planning to renew. Otherwise, submit your lease agreement and full payment no later than next
Friday, March 1st.

The new Marina Customer Portal
Yep! I'm still preaching about using the new  customer portal to complete and pay your renewal. Once you create an account, and after I tie it to your marina account , you'll be able to access your marina information anytime and from anywhere you choose.  Login or get started  here

If you have any questions or need help signing up, call me at 970-468-5100 x-105 or shoot me an  email.

In Memory

It is with a heavy heart that we said goodbye to one of our marina family members earlier this month.
Mara Greenberg passed away after a four year battle with cancer.

Hailing from Houston Texas, Mara retired to Summit County in June 2010. Enjoying life with partner, Sammy Toys, she lived in the ski resort at Keystone. A former high school educator (financial services), bank marketing officer, sales professional and twice a nonprofit director, she brought much experience to Summit. She embraced her life in the mountains by hiking, and snowshoeing, and she really liked all the volunteer opportunities available. Mara was a Rotary Reading Buddy; a Lake Dillon Theater Evergreen-patron and Ambassador; and a Summit County Historical Society Lake Dillon Boat tour guide to name a few. One of her favorite things to do was volunteer at the Senior Center every Friday. She amazed all around her with her positive attitude and smile, and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
