Physicians give input on legislature-directed public option health insurance
More than 40 physicians representing many specialties and geographic areas gathered on July 23 to discuss the state’s development of a public option for health insurance. These component and specialty society physician leaders shared information, gathered perspectives, and considered opportunities for collaboration to influence the development of the plan. The group first heard from special guests Kim Bimestefer, executive director of the Colorado Department of Health Care Policy and Financing (HCPF), and Michael Conway, commissioner of the Division of Insurance (DOI), and then held a facilitated group discussion to identify key takeaways and steps moving forward. CMS president urges DORA to better define, discipline for injection-based investigational care
Chiropractors should be barred from subjecting patients to injection-based investigational care and be subject to disciplinary action should they facilitate these activities, wrote CMS President Debra Parsons, MD, FACP, in a letter to the Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies. In comments related to the sunset reviews of the State Board of Chiropractic Examiners and State Board of Nursing, Parsons wrote that it has come to CMS’ attention that “some chiropractors are utilizing nurse practitioners to perform injection therapies that are not standard of care and not part of an IRB-approved clinical trial such as ‘stem cell therapy’ or the use of amniotic or umbilical cord tissue, platelet rich plasma, or autologous or allogenic serum or plasma with or without vesicles to treat chronic pain or disease.” Read more here.
