Bringing Military Families Together Through Couples Therapy
|
|
In February, we would like to honor the Month of Love by highlighting the importance of couples and family therapy in helping our veterans and military families strengthen their relationships with each other.
A recent study conducted by career website
Zippia looked at professions with the highest divorce rates among those under 30 and found three of the top ten professions involved military jobs. First-line enlisted military supervisors had the highest divorce rate, at 30 percent.
At our clinic, we have many clients who come to us for help with communication challenges, trust issues, thoughts of separation, parenting challenges and financial stress. We know how difficult these issues can be, especially for couples who live the daily challenges of military life.
But seeking help through therapy to better understand your partner whether he or she is a veteran, an active-duty service member or a military spouse is nothing to be afraid of, and is actually one of the most important things you can do to help improve your relationship.
Our therapists are all skilled at helping veterans and military families work through their unique challenges that will work best for them. And most importantly, our therapists are trained to remain neutral while helping each partner try and see the other person’s point of view.
For couples, you do not need to be married to visit our clinic. We welcome all couples whether you’re dating, engaged or married for a long time.
For military families with children who are also seeking therapy, the children have the option to have sessions with their parents or individually. Child care is also available to parents whose children are not in therapy. And telehealth is always an option for the entire family to help make therapy more accessible and convenient.
Of course, we understand that accepting you need help with your relationship can be a heart-breaking realization, but also understand that with time, better communication skills and broadened perspectives all things can heal. We are here for you when you are ready to take the first step.
If you need more time, but are looking for a therapeutic breather from your daily routines, then please consider coming to one of our FREE events that might help you
clear your mind. On February 20 and 22, we will have our next
Puppy Office Hours
with Florence, a service dog in training with the Warrior Canine Connection. On February 26, we will hold our free evening of yoga led by
Warriors at Ease
. And on February 29, we will have our
Art with Heart Workshop
where you and your partner are welcome to use creativity to help communicate.
We look forward to seeing you at our clinic!

We went through the Cohen Veterans Network archives and found some great articles worth sharing about ways other veterans and military family members have cared for each other and cared for themselves in relationships. We hope you will find the information helpful as you work through the unique challenges you and your partner are facing.
