PLANS FOR THE "THE TRAIL"
Yes, the weeds will finally be replaced by a lovely walking park. Chelsea Marshall of WHEAT Design Group will be presenting the proposal in 3-D on the big screen. The plans are in draft form, but Jefferson Park and Tucson Clean and Beautiful have been given the go-ahead and the $$ to get this done! Come see what the future has in store for Jefferson Park and Tucson.

CENTRAL SEGMENTS SAFETY COALITION
Tuesday, March 26, 6:30 pm. This new Coalition will meet every Fourth Tuesday after the Grant Road Coalition Meeting in the WARD III meeting room, 1510 E Grant Road.
Officers from TPD will be at the meeting to discuss crime trends in the area and be available to answer questions or receive feedback from the Coalition Neighborhoods: Mtn/First, SAMOS, Jefferson Park, Catalina Vista, Campbell/Grant.

Banner Hospital Construction Update
|
JP Banner Committee took a field trip to Warren and Lester with the Banner staff and has these updates:
1) All construction will be completed by April 22
2) See the location of the Community History Parklet (yellow arrow).
3) No Parking Request: The Committee and the JPNA will be requesting "No Parking" on the south side of Lester next to the Green Space. Currently, there are signs for "Non Resident Permits" (at $475 a year) installed there.
4) Security Monitoring: Banner Security has agreed to keep a record of calls to them about any encroachment into the neighborhood of patients, visitors, hospital-related traffic etc. Neighbors immediately north of Banner have experienced patients, one still in hospital garb, wandering into the neighborhood, as well as witnessing patient "drop offs" on the neighborhood side, and folks taking a short cut to the bus stop at north Campbell. When the fencing comes down signs will be installed to guide people east. An accurate record will let us know if other measures need to be taken to guide folks off the Banner campus. So, neighbors, please follow this protocol:
Call Banner Security 520-694-6533 if you have concerns.
If the situation warrants, call 911 BUT ALSO call Banner Security so it can be recorded.
We appreciate Banner's willingness to be pro-active and neighbors must be diligent about reporting occurrences.

Purchase a Paver to honor someone special

The Banner Green Space Community Parklet will feature concrete pavers, which will be engraved with a message of your choice. These pavers can be ordered by sending in the form to Banner. CLICK HERE to the print form.
Paver choices are: 2'x2' paver at $600, and 1' x 2' paver at $400.
The funds from the pavers will raise money for the proposed Polo Pony sculpture for the parklet.
The Neighborhood Assn and Friends of Jefferson Park have purchased a paver for our advocate and good neighbor, Minnette Burges, who left us two years ago. We honor her memory, and know that she would approve of the history park celebrating our great community.

Resiliency Workshop at Ward III |
The Resiliency workshop (Jan 27) discussed what individuals and neighbors could do in the event the grid goes down. The possibility of a city-wide heat-related grid failure was discussed. For the entire information booklet

Curious cell phone towers...

Wondering about these at Mt/Grant and on Grant Road?
Have you seen these popping up? They are the new small cell towers coming to our neighborhoods. No permits required. The Federal and State governments are taking local voices out of the cell tower process for these. Random Blue Stake markings on your property are a good indicator.

In the past couple of weeks, we have received several inquiries about cell towers going up in and around our residential areas. The very short message is, that as a result of some pretty successful lobbying by cell distributors, the City's voice is significantly limited."

BRUSH AND BULKY - FEBRUARY 25
Brush & Bulky will collect:
- Brush, tree trunks, branches and other green waste (up to 5 feet long and 24 inches in diameter)
- Lumber (up to 5 feet long and stacked in a separate pile)
- PVC and metal pipes (up to 5 feet long)
- Railroad ties (limit 5)
- Furniture, carpet, and doors
- Lawn mowers with fuel tank and crank case removed
- Scrap metal (bicycles, swing sets, etc., broken into 5 foot lengths)
- Cacti (must be contained - up to 25 lbs.)
- Appliances (remove freezer/refrigerator doors)
- Car tires (limit of five automobile tires)
- Metal drums (empty and cut in half)
Brush and Bulky will NOT collect:
- Any excess over the 10 cubic-yard limit
- Any items other than those listed above, such as
- Stone/bricks/concrete/aggregates
- Construction debris
- Hazardous waste like paint/oil/pesticides/solvents/liquids
- Glass/mirrors
- Television and computer monitors
- Compressed gas/air cylinder(s)
- Vehicle parts
- Commercially generated material

|
The Ward 3 Council Office will once again host United Way's tax prep service (a.k.a. VITA) this year. Every Saturday through April 13th volunteers will be available from 9 am-1 pm. The address is 1510 E Grant Rd. Assistance is on a first come, first served basis. Click

Partners repay a portion of cost of materials based on a sliding scale and ability.

March 31, Sam Hughes Home Tour

2019 Sam Hughes Neighborhood Home Tour - Set for Sunday, March 31
The Sam Hughes Home and Neighborhood Tour is scheduled for noon to 5pm on Sunday, March 31. This self-guided tour, held every other spring, is the major fundraiser for the largest historic neighborhood in Tucson. This year's tour consists of 21 venues, 11 of which are private homes. In addition to music and art, you will be able to sample the food fare, enjoy refreshments or receive a discount in some of our new eateries and businesses, and also see plans for three new developments. Our last tour sold out, so we don't recommend waiting until the last minute.
The Sam Hughes neighborhood is one-square mile east of and adjacent to the University of Arizona. Street parking is plentiful. The ticket/brochure, which includes descriptions of all venues and a map, is $30. For ticket purchase and more information, go to
