Funding from this plate has impacted over 200,000 students in 2017 with lessons, materials, volunteers and teacher training. Annually up to $60K is distributed in grants to schools, FFA, 4-H and other Non-profit programs for Ag education initiatives by the Maine Agriculture in the Classroom Council.

NELENELE Kids Day
The Northeast Livestock Expo Kids Day will take place this year on Thursday, May 17th at the Windsor Fairgrounds. MAITC is a sponsor.
This program is for K-6th grade. 30-45 agricultural demonstrations will be available for youth to visit! Free admissions - transportation funds available on a limited first come first serve basis.

AgLaborFieldDayAgricultural Labor Field Day

The event is open to employers/agencies promoting their summer jobs, internships, career opportunities, and undergraduate programs at KVCC, other high school and college students, and area residents interested in academic and professional careers in a variety of agriculture  fields including Sustainable Agriculture, Culinary Arts, and Business Administration.
The Maine Nutrition Council's next educational event will be Friday, May 11th at the  University of Maine  from 10am - 12pm in the Walker Room on the 3rd floor of the Memorial Union. 
Hear from graduate students about their research related to nutrition!

Fuel Up to Play 60 Funding Opportunity
Funding opportunities are available to any qualified K-12 school enrolled in Fuel Up to Play 60. Sponsored by the National Dairy Council, state and regional Dairy Councils and other supporting organizations, the competitive, nationwide funding program provides money - up to $4,000 per year, per school - to jumpstart healthy changes. Funds are used to help your school implement one Healthy Eating Play and one Physical Activity Play.

Just as NFL teams use a Playbook to figure out their on-the-field strategies, you can use the Fuel Up to Play 60 Playbook to strategize what will make your school a winner - by helping students to eat healthy and get active! Pick a Play that suits your school, use it as a guide and be creative. Then share your experiences with other schools! 2018-2019 Playbook.

Preschool Resource - Garden Nutrition Education

Grow It, Try It, Like It! Nutrition Education Kit Featuring MyPlate is a garden-themed nutrition education kit for child care center staff.

The kit includes seven booklets featuring fruits and vegetables with fun activities through the imaginary garden at Tasty Acres Farm!

The Maine Nature-Based Education Collaborative is seeking youth input in order to inform their work on improving nature-based and environmental education in Maine.  This survey is anonymous, for grades 6-12, and should take less than 10 minutes. Please distribute this survey to your networks and encourage students to respond! Lessons:
- Fabulous Flowers. Grades K-2. The purpose of this lesson is to review the functions of flowers and to help students understand that some flowers are edible.
- Exploring Aquaponics. Grades 3-5. The students will identify the basic needs of plants and fish and engineer, assemble, maintain, and observe a small-scale aquaponics system that meets plant and fish needs.
- Flower Power. Grades 6-8. Students will observe physical characteristics of flowers and explore principles of pollination.
- Plant Nutrient Deficiencies. Grades 9-12. Students will recognize that plants, like people, require essential nutrients to be present in the right amounts in order to be healthy, use reference materials to diagnose plant nutrient deficiencies, define fertilizer as a type of "food" for plants, and appreciate that fertilizers are used to replenish nutrients in agricultural soils.
