On Leadership and Legacy

"With former President George H.W. Bush’s funeral this week, my thoughts have turned towards leadership again. I’ve been inspired by his leadership style throughout the years since it seems to be themed around the person. I’m from the South, so the art of weaving conversation through work, personal, and even political is something I cherish. Bush also seems to understand that a personal touch is crucial to leading effectively."

Test Your Right2Counsel Knowledge
What do people really know and think about the right to counsel and public defense? Most of us know that it exists, but things tend to get fuzzy beyond that. To remedy this, the Right to Counsel National Campaign (R2C) will share facts about public defense every Tuesday on Twitter with the hashtag. #TriviaTuesday. The facts are based on the public opinion report released by R2C in March 2017 entitled, “ Americans’ Views on Public Defenders and the Right to Counsel .” To make any sustainable change, we must first know where we stand, and the information in this report will provide insights to public perception and understanding about the constitutional right to counsel. Join us by following #TriviaTuesday and @Right2Counsel on Twitter and tune in every Tuesday for the latest fact! Can’t even wait that long? Read the full report now.
Collaboration = Holistic Solutions
At JPO, we value collaborative partnerships with government agencies, research organizations, and other non-profits.

We created our Juvenile Drug Treatment Court Training and Technical Assistance (JDTC TTA) Initiative with the idea that the best results are achieved in collaborative efforts. The JDTC TTA Initiative is part of an unprecedented cooperative project with the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP), American Institute for Research , Chestnut Health Systems , the National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges , the National Association of Drug Court Professionals, and other organizations to teach, evaluate, and refine best practice recommendations for the juvenile drug treatment court field. As part of this mammoth undertaking, the JDTC TTA Initiative team met with their partners at OJJDP’s office for a 2-day meeting in November and discussed how the researchers and training and technical assistance stakeholders could maintain mutually beneficial working relationships and how both groups could communicate effectively with practitioners.

We believe that robust and holistic solutions to our justice system’s most pressing problems are achieved when different perspectives and resources are shared, and stakeholders develop new policies and practice in consensus.
