Singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist KRISTEN CASTRO is opening a new chapter in her musical career with the release of her single and music video "Bloom." This new music comes after her recent departure from the indie country/Americana group she co-founded, Maybe April.

"Bloom" is out now everywhere: stream/buy here and watch the music video here . The mesmeric video--which Kristen herself produced and edited--first exclusively premiered on Audiofemme . They describe the audiovisual as "dazzling," "captivating," "beautiful," "dreamy," and go on to add "The 'Bloom' clip combines lustrous visuals over Castro's delicate voice. The minimal production enhances the airy and upbeat single, driven by a synth and guitar-heavy beat. Castro proves her vocal versatility with this song, which differs from her former country twang and dives head first into lighthearted dream pop."

"I wrote 'Bloom' in reflection of opening my eyes to the basic beauty and rebirth found in nature," Kristen explains. "The lyric 'Bloom' and 'Flowers don't get to give up' came from walking through a field of poppies in my hometown in California that wildfires had burned the year before. It was a superbloom and the sight overtook my senses, especially after contemplating how to get out of a dark space."

Kristen prides herself on using music to transcend boundaries. Since the age of ten, she's been creating songs that challenge genre divisions, combining elements of folk, pop, electronica, hard rock, country, Americana, and punk into a distinctive style all her own. Her solo songs incorporate a wide range of electronic, digital, and analog sounds, from electric to acoustic guitarmandolin to basspiano to synth, and banjo to computer keyboard percussion.

Her early experiences playing in metal bands began a deep appreciation for rhythm and power that still informs her music today. She spent six years touring the country as a founding member for popular indie folk/country/Americana  trio Maybe April , sharing the stage with icons Bonnie Raitt, Kris Kristofferson, and Gavin DeGraw. Now a genre-defying solo artist based in Nashville, Kristen makes music with a dark sensibility and cool sweetness; her singles showcase her ability to transform abstract sensation into tangible, relatable music that feels both effortless and complex at the same time.

In the coming months, Kristen will release another pair of singles, as well as perform live shows including several performances at the Mile of Music festival in Appleton, WI (appearances listed below).
