ASH WEDNESDAY: The first day of Lent. The focus is on penitence, or sorrow for sin and fasting and is marked with a special liturgy by the imposition of ashes on the forehead, with the words, "You are dust and to dust you shall return." We start here to remind us of our mortality and our need for mercy, grace, and forgiveness. Wednesday February 26th at: 7AM, 12PM, 6:30PM in the Church.

Lenten Bible Challenge: A 40-Day Journey Through Matthew

Lent is an invitation to spend 40 days walking alongside Jesus, listening to His life-changing teachings, and falling more in love with God through self-examination and repentance; prayer, fasting, and self-denial; and by reading and meditating on God's holy Word.

You're invited to rediscover Christ anew by reading through the Gospel of Matthew in 40 days. You'll cover approximately 30 verses each day for six days a week and then take Sunday as a day of rest. This requires intentionality and may require fasting 10 minutes a day from Facebook, Twitter, cable news, or ESPN to reflect on God's "love letter" to you.

Click Here for the Daily Readings beginning on ASH WEDNESDAY

Lenten Resources

This Lent we are using three resources from the Salt Project. (saltproject.org)
Beginning this Sunday, feel free to stop by our Lenten Resource Tables in both the Narthex of the Church and in Quigley Hall to pick up some resources to aid in you and your family's Lenten journey.

40-Day "Love Builds Up" Family Challenge
SALT's "40-Day 'Love Builds Up' Family Challenge" is the perfect way for families of all shapes and sizes to strengthen spiritual muscles and emotional health during Lent.  We could all use a little training - and a little practice!

Here's the challenge: For each of the six weeks of Lent, spend some time at the beginning of the week (Sunday night, maybe?) reading that week's Bible passage together.  Talk as a family about the suggested topic, using the devotional's optional conversation prompts if you like.  Commit to taking on an action or practice for that week - and then just watch as the Realm of God fills, strengthens, and beautifies your house and the world!

Breaking the Chains: A Family-Friendly Lenten Devotional
"Breaking the Chains" is an engaging, family-friendly, creative Lenten resource for individuals and/or families, inviting all of us to let words of Scripture and daily practices of liberation be our guides through this mysterious season. Each day, break a link in the paper chain (purple links for the 40 days of Lent, and white links for the 7 Sundays) and practice resurrection. Take part in God's chain-breaking, art-making, world-changing grace - all the way to the joyful freedom of Easter morning!

Each day's link includes a hands-on, accessible practice for individuals and/or families of all shapes and sizes to engage the season.  To tell the truth about ourselves and our world, to change our hearts and our ways, and to participate in God's work of breaking chains of injustice, apathy, violence, despair - even the chains of death itself!

Practicing Lent
This modern and inspiring Lenten booklet will be the perfect companion to your Lenten journey, with weekly practices and reflections.  Thoughtful, tenderly written, and provocative, the booklet will challenge you and your community to see the hope and light all around, even as you stay present and awake to the injustices of the world.

We are also offering a devotional from Episcopal Relief and Development called One Thousand Days of Love
This booklet encourages readers to actively seek the holy every day during Lent by reflecting on God's call, their own lives and how they can live out their Baptismal Covenant by healing a hurting world. Episcopal Relief & Development's Lenten Meditations 2020 focuses on the spiritual lives of children and how children inspire the spiritual lives of adults. Episcopal Relief & Development is committed to helping those whom Christ calls the greatest among us, so they can better reach their God-given potential to learn, grow and thrive. Join us each day during Lent for these meaningful meditations.

There is also a podcast associated with the Episcopal Relief and Development Lenten Series.  If folks would like to listen it starts on Tuesday Feb. 25 and can be found at the following link: https://www.episcopalrelief.org/church-in-action/church-campaigns/lent/ .

Serve for Fourth Tuesday at the Coalition:

Lake Silver Listeners
We are putting together a squad of people that would like to go to Lake Silver Elementary and have first and third graders read to them. That's it! It's not mentoring, or teaching, it is just listening to kids read and helping them sound out the occasional word. These two classes have students that come from low-income families and may have parents with language barriers. As a result, they don't get to practice reading at home and this puts them at a disadvantage.

You will be in Ms. Robinson's 1st grade class for 45 minutes, get a 15 minute break and then in Ms. Schessler's 3rd grade class for 45 minutes. This opportunity is available Monday, Wednesday or Friday from 10 am - 11:45 am with a 15 minute break. You will need to be additions approved. Contact Mike in the office to begin the process or visit:  https://app.vomo.org/campaign/school-partners

Feed My Lambs

This is the "sort/box/deliver" week.  Call Andrew at church if you'd like to be a part of this ministry and join our crew of helpers who do this.

Take Them a Meal: Laura Schomberg and Family

Laura James Schomberg and her daughter, Laura Frances, would very much appreciate some help with food for the next 2-3 weeks.  Laura Frances has just had a hip replacement and is now home from the hospital.  Food restrictions would include no shellfish, dairy is fine but milk doesn't settle well, and Laura Frances prefers a gluten-free diet.

To sign up, please go to takethemameal.com, enter Schomberg under Last Name and Schomberg under the Password.  There you can find a day that is convenient for you.  And if you'd like to provide a meal but find your time limited, you can use UberEats (www.ubereats.com) to order and they pick up and deliver; or you can order from some of the College Park eateries and pick up and deliver to them.  They especially enjoy Shaker's, Infusion Tea, and Cristo's.  In any case, please sign up online.

The Schomberg's address is 907 Seville Place, Orlando, 32804 and the phone number is 407-422-1962.  Please call them to set up a convenient time to deliver food, optimally around 5pm.

Thank you so much for serving the Schombergs while Laura Frances recuperates.

Scouts BSA Troop for Girls Organizational Meeting

There will be an organizational meeting for a Scouts BSA Girl Troop on Monday, February 24th at 7pm. Please gather in Quigley Hall by 6:55pm for an opening ceremony.
In 2019, BSA formally allowed girls to join the 100+ year old program and learn how to live life according to the Scout Oath & Scout Law and the program was renamed Scouts BSA.

If you have, or know of any, girls from 11 to 17 (6th grade - 12th grade) who might be interested in joining a Scouts BSA Troop, please join us. You may also email [email protected]

Scout Sunday:

On Sunday February 9th, 26 Scouts and 9 leaders from Pack 207 and Scouts BSA Troop 200 participated in the 10:15 service for Scout Sunday. Scout Sunday is celebrated each year close to Scouting's birthday in the United States on February 8.

Thank you to St Michael's for sponsoring Scouting for 60 years. If you know of anyone who might light to join Cub Scouts (K-5th grade) or Scouts BSA (6th - 12th grade) Boys or Girls, please reach out to [email protected] or [email protected].
