Plan Ahead for Your Commute and Reduce Air Pollution
Warmer temperatures are here and so is the Spare the Air campaign. The Spare the Air program reminds people that fewer cars on the road can mean fewer smoggy days, and fewer Spare the Air Alerts. Take time to consider alternatives to driving alone. Poor air quality in the Bay Area affects everyone, but there is a higher risk for children, pregnant women, the elderly and those with respiratory problems, such as asthma or bronchitis. By working to ensure everyone has the knowledge and tools they need to make the biggest difference possible, we can reduce air pollution – and Spare the Air Alerts. Below are some ways to make a difference and plan ahead:
- Work from home. Ask your employer about telecommuting
- Carpool to work. If telecommuting isn’t an option, think about sharing a ride to work. Carpooling can significantly reduce air pollution and traffic
- Take public transit – plan now and check out the schedules in your area. Visit www.511.org or www.bayareacommutetips.org to see routes and plan your trip.
