About "Rafiki": Rafiki, or "Friend", is a 2018 Kenyan film about the relationship with two girls, as they struggle to balance their love for each other with the pressures from family, politics, and society. As their friendship begins to grow into something more, Kena and Ziki fights social stigmas for their happiness together.

Gender Marker & Name Change Legal Clinic
Feb. 27 | 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM | LGBTRC Heritage Room
Meet with an attorney who can provide assistance and guidance filling out the forms required to change your name and (or) gender marker on birth certificates and other official documents.
Assistance will be provided on drop-in basis in our Heritage Room.
Legal Clinic is FREE.
What you'll need:
-A San Diego-based address
-If you are seeking a fee waiver please bring recent pay stubs if you are currently employed

Trans Name & Gender Marker Changes Clinic

Free clinic for transgender and non-binary individuals seeking name and/or gender-marker changes on official documents.
Based on recent demand, we are going to pilot having the Clinic twice monthly for the first part of the year - the second Tuesday and fourth Wednesday of the month for January through March.

The event consists of an information session lead by the amazing study abroad advisor Andra Jacques, followed by dinner and the space to interact and learn from Black students who have studied abroad previously. Apply for EDS 116 Mentor Practicum
Deadline Feb. 22
All Students interested in becoming mentors at OASIS are required to enroll in the EDS 116 & Mentor Practicum course (students learn basic counseling and communication skills in addition to exploring themselves and other within the group). In order to participate in the course, students go through an interview process to ensure their readiness.
The application deadline is Friday February 22nd, and we will also be having a job fair next week where students can find out more information.

The Vagina Monologues & TheirStories 2019

The Importance of Better Arguments Talk and Reception with Eric Liu

In society today, there is a need for civility, deep listening, and radical empathy. We know, as changemakers, working across differences and going beyond boundaries is critical for deep, systemic social change. In the closing keynote, Eric Liu, former speech writer for Bill Clinton and founder of Citizen University, will discuss a key component often avoided in discussions about bridging divides: the necessity for civil disagreement. What does this look like and how can in play a role in how we move forward a changemakers across divides?
