HAVING DONE ALL STAND
In Ephesians 6:11 it says,
“Put on the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.”
Note that it is God’s armor, not man’s armor. Each piece of armor is representing Jesus Christ.
We do not fight flesh and blood my friends. The battle is a spiritual battle. Satan may use people to try to influence or “get to you”, but it is not the person. It is the spirit in the person. How do we fight these kinds of fights? We do it with God’s armor. When we put on the whole armor of God, it says in verse 13 that we are able to withstand in the evil day and having done all to stand.
This armor is so important, because it keeps us protected from the wiles or tricks or cunning devices of Satan. God doesn’t want us to be ignorant, and like any Commander in Chief, he gives instructions to his “soldiers”, or troops.
The first thing that we do is gird our loins with truth. This is like a belt. It protects that area where we might get “sucker” punched. Satan is good at that. So, when these punches come, the belt of truth helps us ward off his attacks. Jesus is our truth. His word reveals all truth. His word of truth covers that area where we feel the punches.
Then we put on the breastplate of righteousness. It goes over our heart, or our inner man. Jesus gave us his righteousness when we were saved, but he is also our righteousness. We protect our heart with this breastplate. It wards off the darts that would penetrate deep into our spirit.
Then we put the shoes of peace on. This means wherever we go we take peace with us. Jesus gives us the peace that passes all understanding because he is our peace. There is an old quote that says “Know Jesus, Know peace. No Jesus, No peace.” When there is peace in our life because of having the Prince of Peace, we conquer the fear that would try to overtake us.
Then comes the shield of Faith. Hebrews tells us that without faith it is impossible to please God. This shield wards off the darts of doubt, fear, unbelief and keep them at bay. When these things come our way we lift up the shield of faith and they leave. Jesus gives us the faith because he is the faithful one.
Then there is the helmet of salvation. The mind is where most of the battle is. We put this helmet on so thoughts and words from Satan cannot penetrate. Jesus is our salvation, so when we put him into our thoughts it keeps our mind from having darts enter. Without the helmet of salvation Satan feeds our minds with doubt, fear and always tries to condemn us with our past failures. Jesus has forgiven us and keeps our mind free from these things.
The next thing is to pray always in the spirit, which means to pray in other tongues. When we pray in tongues our mind is not involved. It is the perfect prayer because our spirit is praying, and not our intellect.
When we wear God’s armor, we stand against the enemy because we have literally put on Jesus who fights the fight for us. So, when we have done all, we stand with Him. When we do this, we can never fail!

THE GIFT OF PROPHECY
The first group of gifts of the Spirit (I Cor. 12:8-10) are those which speak messages directly from the Lord as Holy spirit moves upon the “message bearer.” These gifts are prophecy, a message in tongues, and the interpretation of the message in tongues.
The gift of prophecy is a message spoken in one’s own language which the body of believers who are gathered can easily understand it. It often is a word of encouragement, or instruction from the Lord, possibly even a word of warning or correction. It is usually given at a time of brief pause so as not to disrupt anything. Many times, the person may be speaking out in a manner louder than they normally would speak. It may be during a time of quiet prayer and meditation or during praise and worship, but not in the middle of a sermon, unless the preacher has a lengthy pause, which could occur if he senses that the Spirit wants to do something.
Let’s talk about what the gift of prophecy is NOT. It is not “inspired preaching.” Many non-Pentecostal seminaries and bible colleges teach that it is simply the preaching of the word. That view was “thought up” as an explanation by those who know little or nothing about any of the gifts of the Holy Spirit. They try to “explain away” the gifts.
It is also not the function of the five-fold ministry gift to the Church of Prophet.” A prophet is a specific calling of God placed upon a person. God reveals things about His plans to them. Sometimes it may be through a vision, or a dream, or a trance, or just simply revealing it to their mind or heart. God’s revelation to a prophet comes various ways, and not the same way to all of them.
A prophetic message given through the Holy Spirit in this “gift of prophecy” comes to an ordinary believer, not to a prophet. The “gift of prophecy” is vastly different from the “office of a Prophet.” A Prophet or Prophetess walks in the anointing of that “office” seven days a week just as does one who is anointed in the “office” of Pastor or Evangelist, Teacher, or Apostle.
Tomorrow we will consider the companion gifts of tongues and interpretation of tongues, so stay tuned. We are going through all nine gifts in this study.

Oh that we should ever forget the Cross and the price Jesus paid for our sins with His own shed Blood, the mockery He endured, and every stripe that He felt cut into His flesh that represented His healing for any infirmity that would come upon our body! The nails penetrated His Hands, that were still as human flesh as ours, to hang His body for others to see as He suffered in agony unto His death. We say "ouch" or maybe even more if we happen to prick our finger perhaps with even a rose thorn. Yet the precious Lamb of God, Jesus, never uttered a complaint even as He was led as a sheep towards slaughter to the Cross where He would bleed and die. He is the Rose of Sharon, The Lily of the Valley and the Bright and Morning Star! He was crowned with a crown of thorns as He was declared irreverently, by pious ungodly men, to be "King of the Jews". There were those who had murder in their hearts for Him, even as they spoke such words of cruelty and shame. Yes, remember that while Jesus was on the Cross, we were on His mind. How can that be? We were one of the sinners that He suffered and died for. Jesus knew His Destiny. He knew His Blood would be the only Restitution for our sins that would pardon us in God's eyes and reconcile us with God for Eternity. Some may have been surprised or doubted when the Stone was Rolled away on Resurrection Day but Jesus wasn't. He knew His purpose in God, stayed surrendered to it, knew what suffering was before Him and what the outcome would be for Him and us. Yet, He willingly said to the Father, "Not my will but Yours" as He faced the Cross before Him. His surrender to the Father's Will and His love for us while we were sinners, is why we are no longer bound but free. In fact, this is the truest freedom ever known to mankind, to be set free from the bondage of sin. Jesus knew His Destiny and stayed surrendered and submitted to the Father to complete it. So should we stay surrendered daily to the Father's Will not ours, even if it is not easy at times. We have to take up our own Cross and follow Him! We must know the outcome of obeying God far exceeds anything we could do by giving in to our flesh or carnal nature. We should stay focused, submitted and live as well as be prepared to die as Jesus did, with forgiveness in our heart to all who have ever wronged us or caused us pain. This is a requirement for our own forgiveness, is to forgive. We should never forget the price He paid because of the love in His heart for us while we were still sinners. It is not the will of God that any perish and that is why He allowed Jesus to bear our sins. The Son of God became our Savior from death, hell and the grave. We only need to repent, receive Him as Savior and confess Him as our Lord. His Resurrection power will then indwell in us to have Eternal Life. It is appointed for man to die once but we can escape the "second death" which means we will live eternally in Heaven and not in the torment of Hell. Jesus was God's gift to all of us in this world and the world to come. Hosanna!!! Blessed be the King of Israel who was dead and now lives forever more!!!
