Your July 29, 2019 Morgan Hill Weekly 411
It's the Weekend Morgan Hill!

How will you and your family be enjoying the weekend? It's hot so remember to stay hydrated, wear sunscreen and take frequent breaks from strenuous exercise and physical activity. If you don't have a place to cool off remember that both the Centennial Recreation Center and the Morgan Hill Library serve as cooling centers during normal business hours during the week and weekends. The Community and Cultural Center also serves as a cooling center Monday - Friday.

Morgan Hill is happy to announce that we have phased out rodenticides! Rodenticides, commonly known as rat poison, are pesticides for rodents. Unfortunately, the poison often finds its way into pets and important wildlife species.

When pets and birds of prey consume poisoned rodents, they also ingest the poison. The long term results of rodenticide use is a fall in natural predator populations, leaving the rodents to continue populating unwanted areas.

Rodenticides are a temporary fix to a larger problem. The best solution has been found to be integrated pest management programs which combines methods of prevention, exclusion, sanitation, and mechanical/biological control of pest populations.

Please take note that PG&E will be holding a Wildfire Safety Open House in Los Gatos on August 7, 2019. PG&E will not be holding these Open Houses in South County so meeting will be the closest one for Morgan Hill. More details can be found in the body of this email.

The City Council held its Mid Year Goals Review on Friday, July 26 from 9:00 am - approximately 4:00 pm. The video of the meeting can be viewed online.

Enjoy these last few weeks before school is back in session! We look forward to your ongoing engagement in community life and our local Morgan Hill government.

Plan Ahead for Your Commute and Reduce Air Pollution
Warmer temperatures are here and so is the Spare the Air campaign. The Spare the Air program reminds people that fewer cars on the road can mean fewer smoggy days, and fewer Spare the Air Alerts. Take time to consider alternatives to driving alone. Poor air quality in the Bay Area affects everyone, but there is a higher risk for children, pregnant women, the elderly and those with respiratory problems, such as asthma or bronchitis.
By working to ensure everyone has the knowledge and tools they need to make the biggest difference possible, we can reduce air pollution – and Spare the Air Alerts. Below are some ways to make a difference and plan ahead:
  • Carpool to work. If telecommuting isn’t an option, think about sharing a ride to work. Carpooling can significantly reduce air pollution and traffic.
  • Work from home. Ask your employer about telecommuting
  • Take public transit – plan now and check out the schedules in your area. Visit www.511.org or www.bayareacommutetips.org to see routes and plan your trip.

For more information, visit www.sparetheair.org or follow Spare the Air on Facebook, on Twitter @SpareTheAir and on Instagram @sparetheair.
