Pastor Andy Writes...
Return to Me!
Daily on Facebook Live I have been going through the minor prophets. There are twelve minor prophets. You can find them at the end of the Old Testament. The minor prophets address God’s judgement on the descendants of Jacob.
After the reign of Solomon, the nation Israel divided into two kingdoms. The northern kingdom and southern kingdom. The northern kingdom was called Israel and the southern kingdom was called Judah. If you want to read more about the two kingdoms start reading your Bible at First Kings chapter 12 and continue reading through Second Chronicles.
Israel, the northern kingdom was rich in natural resources. It was strategically located on main trade routes. The residents of the northern kingdom enjoyed great economic prosperity. The southern kingdom was dry and arid. Life was tough in Judah. It had a larger geographic footprint, but the economy was limited by the climate.
Israel, with its natural resources became wealthy. The economy flourished. The Israelites, to accumulate greater wealth and influence, made alliances with foreign nations. They also began to worship foreign deities. The nation Israel turned away from the true God. They abandoned the true God in favor of wealth and possessions.
God declared that he would destroy the Israelites because of their infidelity. Their denial of the true God and their worship of false gods brought about the destruction of the Northern kingdom. The prophets warn the people of the coming judgement. They exhort the Israelites to repent.
Joel, chapter two, verses thirteen and fourteen: “Return to the Lord your God, for he is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love; and he relents over disaster. Who knows whether he will not turn and relent, and leave a blessing behind him, a grain offering and a drink offering for the Lord your God?”
As I read the minor prophets, I see God’s judgment on the nation Israel. He destroys the nation because they place their trust in material wealth and they worship false god’s. They play at religion and fidelity, but they exploit the poor and forsake the commandments of God. The infidelity of the people of God leads to their destruction. They fail to love God and love their neighbor.
The minor prophets serve us to help us to see our sin. We are people that deserve God’s righteous judgment. God sends us His Son. Jesus suffers and dies to reconcile us to God. He gives us life and salvation. Turn to the Lord and live. No matter what we have or what we lose, our salvation is Christ alone. We deny Christ to our own damnation. Turn to the Lord and live.
Project Leader Needed:
The COS council is looking for a capable individual to take the lead on a community building clean up project. This leader would need to assess, plan and organize a clean up day in July. There has been water damage in the community building due to gutter issues. Clean up and repair needs to be done quickly. If interested please contact Pastor or one of the council members to get the ball rolling.

Meet Your Elders
Howard Meyer:
Sharon and I are life-long Lutherans, transferring from Lord of Life – Leawood in 2018, and we have two grown children and five grand-children. We live south of Louisburg, close to our son and his family. Our daughter and her family live in the St. Joseph area. I retired four years ago, having worked as an Electrical Engineer at the Wolf Creek Nuclear Generating Station for over 30 years. While living in Emporia, Ks, I helped organize a local off-shoot of the national Promise Keepers organization. For the last 46 years, in my free time, I have been involved in long-distance running. I've been known to combine my passion for running, and the Pro-Life movement, by jogging many 2/3-mile loops around the Planned Parenthood building in Overland Park, wearing an “Unborn Lives Matter” t-shirt. I welcomes inquiries from potential running partners.
Gerry Eickhoff:
I grew up in Natoma, KS (Where's that?) in north central Kansas. I met my wife, Michelle, when we were both students at Wichita State University, and we have been married for 30 years. We have two adult children, Christian and Micaela. I am a lifelong member of the LCMS. My family was a part of the group that came together to form Christ Our Savior. My wife and I led the youth group for several years, taking two groups of youths to the LCMS National Youth Gathering. I enjoy participating in church and doing whatever needs to be done on a given Sunday. I have always been of the opinion that since I'm there, I may as well be doing something. In my spare time, I enjoy hunting, bike riding, fishing, watching movies and going to concerts and musical productions. I also enjoy watching NASCAR and the NFL, and participating in a family fantasy league. I try to live my confirmation verse, Revelation 2:10 - Be faithful unto death, and I will give you the crown of life.
Paul Richards:
I served three terms on the church council as president and have been a member of this church from the beginning. Since retiring from the Louisburg Fire Department, in 2018, I enjoy spending my time at the lake or helping out where I can.
Brian Flanery:
I joined the Lutheran Church body of believers (after twenty-eight years of being a practicing Catholic), when I married my wife Susan, who is a lifetime Lutheran. Susan and I have been married for 37 years and have three sons and nine grandchildren between the ages of 2-8 years old.
I've have been in the healthcare field for 37 years, and I split my time between Overland Park and Mound City at Sugar Valley Lakes.
I grew up, was educated in South Dakota, and graduated with a business degree. I also manage our family farms both in South Dakota and Kansas.
