Join us on the 1st Thursday of every month for some fun and creativity. This month, in honor of our summer theme, "A Universe of Stories," we will make constellation luminaries!

Summer Concert Series: Robert Black
Thursday, August 1st, 6:00-7:30pm, Library Lawn (or Community Room, in the event of rain)
Elvis is...at the library! Join us for a free summer concert with Robert Black. Bring a chair, blanket, and dinner - or purchase dinner from a local food truck on site - and enjoy a night of live entertainment. A fun night for the whole family!

Pack a lunch and join us for a showing of E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial  on the big screen! A troubled child summons the courage to help a friendly alien escape Earth and return to his home world.

Zumba

Perfect for everybody and every body! Once the Latin and World rhythms take over, you'll see why Zumba Fitness classes are often called exercise in disguise.

Retro Game Club Lite

Visit the library for a drop-in version of Retro Game Club - Retro Game Club  Lite

Over the summer, Retro Game Club will be on a bit of a hiatus to focus on our summer reading programs...but fret not! We'll still have games set up the first Tuesday of each month. Come play a variety of plug-and-play consoles, or bring your own handheld systems and chat with other gamers. Retro Game Club will return to its full glory in September 2019. 

*This month, the RGC Arcade will remain open after hours in the Community Room for Laser Tag participants. Game on!
2020 Census Jobs Presentation

The U.S. Census Bureau is recruiting thousands of people across the country to assist with the 2020 Census count. This information session will describe local opportunities to earn extra income while helping your community.

A book club with a tasty twist! We read cookbooks and come together to share the tasty recipes that lie inside their pages. This month we'll be sampling recipes from cookbooks by Valerie Bertinelli.

Block Party

Come celebrate Tiverton and the end of the Summer Reading Program at our all-ages Block Party! Enjoy music, snow cones, crafts, family activities, and some visitors from a galaxy far, far away!

Adult Grand Prizes will be handed out during the Block Party. You do not have to be present to win.
Your Life, Your Legacy

Adult Knitting Meet-Up
Tuesday, August 20th, 5:30-8:00pm, Learning Center
A casual meeting for knitters looking to work on their projects with others who enjoy knitting and crocheting. Join us on the Third Tuesday of the month to meet and socialize with local knitters. Must bring your own projects and supplies.
Quilt Club
Wednesday, August 21st, 5:30-7:30pm, Learning Center
Do you like to quilt? Then come and quilt with us on the third Wednesday of each month, from 5:30 to 7:30 pm. Whether you're a beginner or a seasoned pro, you are welcome to come and work on your own projects while socializing with fellow enthusiasts. Get project ideas, ask questions, and share tips and advice. Must bring your own projects and supplies.
Painting Landscapes
Thursday, August 22nd, 4:00-6:00pm, Community Room
In this two-hour session, local artist John Irwin will take you step by step through the process of starting a seascape painting and deciding when it is finished. All materials are provided.

Registration opens on August 15th at 4:00pm. No exceptions.  You can register in person, online at tivertonlibrary.org, or by calling 401-625-6796 after 4:00pm on August 15th.
Conversation with the Author: Katharine Smyth
Monday, August 26th, 6:30-7:30, Community Room
Katharine Smyth was a student at Oxford when she first read Virginia Woolf's modernist masterpiece To the Lighthouse in the comfort of an English sitting room and in the companionable silence she shared with her father. After his death--a calamity that claimed her favorite person--she returned to that beloved novel as a way of wrestling with his memory and understanding her own grief. 

Braiding memoir (including her memories of summers spent in Tiverton), literary criticism, and biography, All the Lives We Ever Lived is a love letter from a daughter to her father, and from a reader to her most cherished author. Join us for a conversation with Katharine Smyth, as she talks about her experience in writing and publishing this award-winning book. Copies of the book will be available to purchase or borrow.
Free Movie: Passengers  (2016; Rated PG-13; 1h, 56min)
Wednesday, August 28th, 6:00-8:00pm, Community Room
Join us for a showing of Passengers on the big screen! A spacecraft traveling to a distant colony planet and transporting thousands of people has a malfunction in its sleep chambers. As a result, two passengers are awakened 90 years early.

Popcorn and drinks will be provided; outside snacks are also welcome.
Adult Game Night
Thursday, August 29th, 7:00-9:00pm, Community Room
Join us for a laid back game night at the library. Play one of our games, ranging from board-building strategy to trivia-style games and more, or bring your own!

This month, the group will be discussing  The Book Woman of Troublesome Creek by Kim Michele Richardson.

YA Book Club for Adults
Tuesday, August 13th, 6:00-7:30pm, Learning Center
The YA for Adults Book Club is a book discussion group for adult readers who enjoy reading Young Adult/Teen Fiction. This month, we will be reading Nyxia by Scott Reintgen .

Copies are available for check out at the library. Teens must be at least in high school to attend this book group. Please see Rebecca with any questions.

Tiverton Senior Center Book Group
Tuesday, August 20th, 10:15-11:15am, Tiverton Senior Center, 207 Canonicus Street, Tiverton
We will be reading The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls at the Tiverton Senior Center. The book is the memoir of a woman's difficult childhood, her success despite obstacles, and the strained relationships that result.

Everyone is welcome. Copies of the book are available at Tiverton Public Library and in the office at the Senior Center.
Union Library Book Group
The Union Public Library Book Group will not meet in August. 

September's book choice is The 7 1/2 deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle by Stuart Turton.

You are welcome to join any book group. Stop at the Information Desk for a copy of the book to be discussed. Only the Cookbook Club requires registration.

Animal Experiences

Join Dave Marchetti and friends at the library to visit with turtles, lizards, snakes and a few small mammals.

Glow in the Dark Paint Party
Friday, August 9th, Children's Activity Room
Two times: 11:00am and 3:00pm
Kids entering 1st - 5th grade
Join Miss Meg on a painting adventure through the galaxy. At the end of the one-hour session you will have a framed piece of art to take home. Please arrive on time for this step-by-step project so that you take a completed project home at the end of the program.

Cookie Constellations

Create some stellar snacks at the library today. We will be using sugar wafers, frosting and candy to create delicious constellations.

Please bring a white cotton tee with you to tie-dye.

Passes may be reserved  in person at the Information Desk,  by phone at 401-625-6796,  or at tivertonlibrary.org/museum-passes/ We recommend that you call the museum or attraction before you go. Some locations close for special events, during certain seasons, or other reasons.
