Doug Hawkes Fundraiser at Cedar Hill in Victoria

Tournament Host Ben Uliana of Cedar Hill Squash Club would like to thank everyone that participated in the 4th annual Doug Hawkes Summer No Frills Tournament.

All profit from the event goes directly to their Junior Fund to help support Junior travel to tournaments.  This event was coordinated and run by the juniors that receive funding from the club.  We see them playing all the time now it is their turn to give back!!!

Spectators and participants were lucky to be treated to a fantastic final between Gavin Maxwell and Vicky Lust.  The match started out light hearted although by the middle of the third game sweat was flying around the court and passion to play had taken over.  Gavin loves the aerial acrobatics and kept jumping in the air to pay the cross court forehand volley knick.  A crowd pleaser every time.  In the end we were treated to a 4-game win by Gavin Maxwell.

Special thank you to the Cedar Hill Squash Club Board of Directors that Barbecued for the tournament participants on Saturday afternoon.  Food for the BBQ was donated by Fairway Market.

Stuart Dixon has been awarded the Squash Canada Certificate of Achievement.

He is a NCCP Level 4 Certified coach and has conducted over 82 NCCP courses across Canada.  Stuart was involved in coaching National Canadian Squash teams at every level. Foundations Coaching in Revelstoke

On June 8th to 10th, the Revelstoke Squash Club hosted a level 1 Squash Coaching Course.

The session was facilitated by Brooke Siver. five participants (4 from Revelstoke and one from Nakusp) took part, learning a great deal about how to introduce and teach the game of squash to new players and juniors.

One of the biggest challenges for small, rural based clubs like Revelstoke and Nakusp is having people to work with new members. The Revelstoke Club is completely volunteer run, including all the new member and junior coaching. With this course, both Revelstoke and Nakusp have new capacity to work with new players and expand their junior squash offerings.

The Revelstoke Squash Club would like to thank Brooke for coming to deliver the course, and to Squash BC for all the support in making this happen.

Building Squash Resilience
Everyone knows what it feels like to feel "bent over double" like these guys did after a 2-minute rally.
Bent over double

How do you build up your resilience to make through these types of grueling points?  Check out physiotherapist Dave Carter's tips on becoming a more resilient amateur athlete.

Dave Carter is a physiotherapist whose passion has always been movement (probably more aptly described as play).  I love exploring new hikes, playing new sports, training for squash, and learning about this wonderful thing we call the human body
.  Dave's office is located at the Vancouver Racquets Club.

Sunny Summer Squash
Now that it is officially summer, many squashers tend to seek the outdoors to enjoy the sun while it lasts.  But if you read the article above, it is best to keep one foot on the court to maintain squash resilience.
Upcoming summer tournaments offer an opportunity to keep your squash skills somewhat sharp, while playing in a relaxed, laid-back summer vibe.
SquashFEST 2018
in sunny Summerland (July 20-22) is an annual non-ranking squash tournament run by the good folks at Squash Republic and sanctioned by Squash BC.

Players can enjoy squash on the shores of Lake Okanagan where the Lakeshore Squash Club is located. SquashFEST is the perfect squash tournament for families as children and dogs are always welcome.

There is access to Lake Okanagan directly in front of the club and a large family beach about 50 feet away. Most of the participants choose to camp on the property which makes it a truly unique and memorable event.
