FOUNDATION TO HOST WORKSHOP ON INFOGRAPHICS FOR SOCIAL CHANGE AUG. 2
The Foundation for a Healthy Kentucky will host a free all-day workshop on creating infographics that will inspire policy change and mobilize grass roots movement on Friday, Aug. 2, in Louisville.
International speaker, Adobe Creative Residency alumna, and award-winning infographic designer Jessica Bellamy, will lead the workshop. Topics covered will include drafting icons, composing infographics, using power dynamics in design, framing data, asset vs. deficit mapping, how to find information and grassroots design strategies.

E-CIG TAX WILL REDUCE USE AMONG YOUTH AND PREGNANT WOMEN, COALITION SAYS
A bill to tax e-cigarettes the same as traditional, combustible cigarettes in Kentucky will help reverse the youth e-cigarette epidemic, the Coalition for a Smoke-Free Tomorrow said today.
Coalition members and Chair Ben Chandler joined Rep. Jerry T. Miller of Louisville, Rep. Kim Moser of Taylor Mill, and Public Health Commissioner Dr. Jeff Howard in Frankfort today to announce the bill, which would add an excise tax on the sale of e-cigarettes sold in Kentucky of 27.5 percent of the wholesale price. That amount is parallel to the current tax on cigarettes of $1.10 per pack.

KRHA is now accepting poster proposals for the 2019 conference on November 14th and 15th in Bowling Green, KY. Submitted poster proposals are required to have a policy focus related to the health of rural Kentuckians. Abstract submissions are due by July 15th, 2019.

DrugFreeLex and the Tobacco Committee recently released three striking public service announcements (PSAs) on JUUL. These face-paced, fact-based PSAs, designed to target parents, teachers, administrators and other working with youth, are free for all to use. Each video includes facts about JUUL and other e-cigarettes. These short ads provide insight into the chemicals in JUUL and their harmful effects, the rising popularity of JUUL, why youth may be more susceptible to e-cigarette use and addiction, and why e-cigarettes are especially damaging for teens including negative health costs and long-term adverse health effects.

Stanford Tobacco Prevention Toolkit Training
The Lexington-Fayette County Health Department Tobacco Program will host training sessions for the Stanford University School of Medicine Youth Tobacco Prevention Toolkit during March 2019. The "Toolkit" is a nationally recognized, evidence-based curriculum. It is more comprehensive than typical tobacco prevention curricula because it includes content designed to improve general adolescent health vs. focusing only on tobacco. It is free to use, and contains seven modules with ready-made activities, PowerPoint presentations, handouts, and worksheets.
This training is free, and Kentucky educators, adult stakeholders, and anyone interested in youth tobacco prevention are invited to attend. See below for more information about the training, and learn more about the "Toolkit" at https://med.stanford.edu/tobaccopreventiontoolkit.html

10-Minute Walk Planning Grant and Technical Assistance
Through the 10-Minute Walk Campaign, National Recreation and Park Association with support from The JPB Foundation, is excited to offer grants and technical assistance to support planning efforts that help cities increase access to high-quality parks within a 10-minute walk. In the third round of grants 10 cities will receive $40,000 to work alongside NRPA, The Trust for Public Land (TPL), and the Urban Land Institute (ULI) to develop their highest, best, and measurable commitment to the 10-Minute Walk Campaign.

Building Capacity to Reduce Tobacco Inequities in the South and Midwest
Robert Wood Johnson Foundation seeks to support and engage black community members, persons of lower socioeconomic status, and rural residents in the South and Midwest in order to increase their ability to advocate for stronger, locally or regionally driven tobacco-control and prevention policies and practices.
