CO-PRESIDENTS' LETTER
Dear Saxe Families,

3..2..1..Happy New Year! We hope you spent your holiday break surrounded by family and friends and enjoying some much-needed rest. We also hope the middle-schoolers in your life were able to endure all that forced family fun!

Reflecting back on 2019, we are touched and amazed by the generosity of our Saxe parent community. With your help, the PTC has already funded a number of student activities and curriculum enhancements that will enrich every student’s experience.

Here are several ways in which your CELEBRATE SAXE donations have already made a difference:

  • Books for classroom libraries across all grade levels and disciplines.
  • Instrument enhancements: the PTC purchased a bass drum, trombone, and bass clarinet for the Saxe school band.
  • National Geographic Giant Maps for use by all Saxe Social Studies students in all grades.
  • Rockets, simulation software and launch materials for 7th and 8th grade students to participate in a national rocket making/launch competition.
  • Customized Welcome Mats with the Saxe Logo for the school’s front and back entrances
  • Microphones and other recording equipment for students to utilize when producing video projects and podcasts.
  • Fabric for our 8th grade Latin students to make reusable tunics for use at Connecticut Latin Day.
  • Software for the Myths and More Club and competition fees for our Mock Trial Club.
  • A new fish tank for the Trout Club’s 10 Year Anniversary!

There are a number of additional grants still working their way through the approval process and we shall share the results of those in the weeks to come. We look forward to having your kids back at Saxe tomorrow morning and we wish you and your families a healthy and happy 2020.

Gratefully yours,
Geri Mohr and Patty Zoccolillo

PRINCIPAL'S LETTER
Dear Saxe Parents,

Happy New Year! As we come off the nice holiday break and head into this season of “new beginnings”, it is my hope that you and your family feel refreshed and optimistic about what 2020 has in store for us. The new year allows us to recalibrate our thinking and put a renewed focus on goals and priorities, big and small. These may be individual or approached with a supportive group with similar ambitions. Either way, it is important to remember that slow and steady is the name of the game. Celebrating the small successes is a great way of building momentum and appreciating the journey along the way. I wish you the best with all of your aspirations in the new year!

Sincerely,
Dave Gusitsch
Principal, Saxe Middle School

Donate Your Used Computers
For almost two decades, Computers for Kids program has been collecting and fixing up gently used computers at Saxe to give to families in need. If you know a child or family in need of a computer, please contact  Patty Potts If you have an unused laptop or desktop computer to donate, please bring it to the Saxe Lower Division Security Desk labeled with your name and address. Laptops are in especially high demand. Community member Julius Alexander prepares the CPUs for us, custodian Bob Tonucci organizes stock and finds monitors, keyboards, etc. to work with the CPUs, and our Saxe Lower Division Security Staff accept donations and help recipients pick up their "new" computers. This program would not run without their generous help, and new volunteers are always welcome.
