CARES Act Provider Relief Fund
New Phase of Provider Relief Fund Open for Applications
Providers are encouraged to apply through November 6th for the latest round of Provider Relief Fund (PRF) support. Applications will be considered regardless of whether your organization was previously eligible, applied, received, accepted, or rejected for prior PRF payments. For this newest phase, funding will be allocated to providers based on assessed financial losses and changes in operating expenses caused by COVID-19. DPH Announces Latest COVID-19 Statistics
Hospitalizations Increase by 25%
According to the Delaware Division of Public Health (DPH), Delaware has a total of 651 fatalities due to COVID-19, an increase of nine from last Friday. In addition, 104 individuals are currently hospitalized due to COVID-19 in Delaware, which represents a 25% increase since last Friday.

The latest Delaware COVID-19 statistics include:
21,827 total laboratory-confirmed cases

  • New Castle County cases: 11,399
  • Kent County cases: 3,190
  • Sussex County cases: 7,148
  • Unknown: 90
  • Age range: 0 to 104
  • Hospitalized: 104; Critically ill: 21

Update on COVID-19 Outbreaks in Long-term Care Facilities: DPH continues to investigate COVID-19 outbreaks in long-term care facilities throughout the state. Facilities where significant ongoing outbreaks are occurring, as of Oct. 8, 2020: 

  • Kentmere Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Wilmington; 53 residents and 37 staff members 
  • Cadia Healthcare Silverside in Wilmington; 44 residents and 27 staff members 
  • Country Rest Home in Greenwood; 28 residents and 15 staff members  

Aggregate K-12 School-Related COVID-19 Statistics: Delaware cumulative number of COVID-19 positive students and staff, statewide, who were in-person at a school or child care facility while potentially infectious, reported to DPH between Sept. 1, 2020, and Oct. 8, 2020: 

  • Child care – 15 students and 11 staff 
  • Private K-12 – 31 students and 12 staff
  • Public K-12 – 11 students and 43 staff


Additional demographic data on COVID-19 cases and deaths, including race/ethnicity, more age-specific data and rates information by ZIP code, and information on Delaware's contact tracing efforts can be found on the Division of Public Health's My Healthy Community data portal.

Hospital Price Transparency
New Requirements Display Cost of Care Designed to Help Consumers
Starting January 1, 2021, each hospital operating in the United States will be required to provide clear, accessible pricing information online about the items and services they provide in two ways:

  • As a comprehensive machine-readable file with all items and services.
  • In a display of shoppable services in a consumer-friendly format.

This information will make it easier for consumers to shop and compare prices across hospitals and estimate the cost of care before going to the hospital. Read more.

University of Delaware Hosts Delaware Debates 2020
October 13 & October 14
The tradition of public debates at the University of Delaware continues next week when Delaware's candidates for Governor meet on Tuesday, October 13th, and for the U.S. House of Representatives on Wednesday, October 14th. The biennial Delaware Debates is a joint initiative of UD's Center for Political Communication and Delaware Public Media (WDDE 91.1, WMPH 91.7, and WMHS 88.1).
