Winter activities are wrapping up with several groups heading into state competition starting this week. More details in the articles below. We're also in the middle of ILTR month - still time to meet your reading goals. Keep an eye on the elementary Facebook pages for fun updates ( LS, TFPS).  Building projects continue to progress with weekly updates, and there's a rumor that Spring will come early this year...If you can't wait, check out the article on the new greenhouse and start making plans for your garden. 

Alpine Skiing and Lakettes Dance

Both the Boys and Girls Alpine teams are the Northwest Suburban Conference Champions. Three individuals qualified for state at the section meet: Jamie Mower finishing in 9th; Sophie Janzig finishing in 9th; and Megan Cartier finishing in 10th. The team is coached by Rich Cartier and Su Leslie.

The Varsity Kick team finish in 3rd place at the section meet, sending them to state competition. Varsity Jazz placed 4th at the section meet. The Dance Team State Tournament is this Friday and Saturday at the Target Center.

BPA and DECA Send Participants to State Competition
  

In addition to serving the community meal and packing food for Feed My Starving Children, BPA completed a flag service project made up of over 2000 toy soldiers that now hangs in the Forest Lake VFW. BPA will send 22 participants to state competition in March in a variety of events such as accounting, computer applications, presentations, banking, law, and video production. Lynn Stolz is the BPA advisor.


DECA State Qualifiers include: Jamie Mower, Isaac Aldrich, Jackson Waltman, Tucker Bakken, Kellie Higgins, Claire Meyer, Selena Lee, Sarah Bjelland,  Zach Johnson, Will Tinjum, Thomas Overgaard, David Dunne, Wil Forsberg, Jacob Hubbard, and Shelby Peltier. This group is lead by Mr. Charlie Cook. State competition for DECA is March 3-5 in Minneapolis.
New Greenhouse Gets Set Up for Plants

If you're one of the lucky students in Mr. Lindeman's Greenhouse Management class, you get to spend winter thinking about spring and summer. With the new greenhouse completed, students are working on  transferring plants into larger pots and getting ready for more planting. 

There's some pretty high tech equipment in place to keep conditions optimal. Mr. Lindeman may want to take a look at the manual for these...
