Huzzah for Independence!
John Adams famously said that Independence Day celebrations for the United States should take place on July 2, and many of this year’s commemorations are taking the spirit of his statement to heart with events beyond July 4. Several sites across the Crossroads of the American Revolution National Heritage Area are sharing the spirit of independence in creative ways! Here are just a few:

Five Princeton-area historic sites are teaming up to present a Revolutionary scavenger hunt! Download the quiz questions, and discover the answers by visiting Morven Museum & Garden, Rockingham, the Princeton Battle Monument, Princeton Battlefield and Updike Farmstead. The first 300 families to complete the hunt and return to Morven by July 8 to submit their answers will receive a commemorative coin. More information.

Expecting to stay closer to home on the 4th? Middlesex County invites you to join the virtual fun with a website chock-full of patriotic resources, including a stirring rendition of the national anthem and recipes for your Independence Day barbecue. Watch a video of the real thing as you participate in a virtual feu de joie along with others by banging pots and pans at 5 p.m. More information

Historic Cold Spring Village celebrates on July 3 and 4 with readings of the Declaration of Independence, early American crafts demonstrations, patriot spy games and militia musters for the kids, patriotic music and more. More information.

Hear the stirring words of the Declaration of Independence at the site of the Continental Army’s January 3, 1777 victory, as Princeton Battlefield State Park hosts a reading on July 4. More information

At the site of the first public reading of the Declaration of Independence 245 years ago, representatives from Crossroads staff and board join Mayor Reed Gusciora and a cross section of Trenton residents in an anniversary reading on July 8 at noon. More information.

Historic groups join Heritage Partners program

Historic sites and organizations across New Jersey are enlisting in the cause of heritage tourism as they become Crossroads Heritage Partners. While they tell their part of the story of the American Revolution here in the Garden State, each Partner enjoys programming and marketing support that helps them reach even more visitors. Partner representatives also get advance notice on Crossroads-sponsored workshops and professional development seminars to help make the most of their organizations’ historical offerings.

This month, we’re happy to welcome two new Heritage Partners:
