Nothing But Nets
On Friday, February 8, 12:30-1:45 p.m., middle school students will host the Nothing but Nets shoot-a-thon in the Primary Gym to raise awareness and money for Nothing But Nets, an organization that purchases mosquito netting to reduce the transmission of malaria to children in Africa. Students in grades 3-5 are invited to participate. Time to Lace Up! Family Skating is Saturday, February 9
Please join us for the   Annual Family Skating Party  on Saturday, February 9, 12:00 noon-2:00 p.m. at the Canton Ice House ( 65 North Street, Canton ). If you're interested in volunteering to help out at this fun, family event, you can sign up through  SignUpGenius.   The event is free to all families and open to skaters of all abilities. Hot cocoa and snacks will be provided! Helmets are recommended, and hockey sticks are not allowed. Free skate rentals are also available. Email  Amy Starmer  with any questions.

Grade 3 Play Has Environmental Message

The third-grade students brought heir hilarious play to the DCD stage this week in two performances on Thursday, January 31, and Friday, February 1. Although very funny, their play also taught some timely messages about the importance of recycling and looking after our environment for the sake of the animals who share our world. We ask your children to build masks - to try them out, adjust the fit, the expression, and to examine exactly what they're showing and to whom. In heroic tradition, masks are often a noble defense that guards the anonymity of chivalrous deeds or selfless, altruistic risks. But masks are not just barriers. More than shields parrying unwanted attention, they are also curatorial reckonings of value and need that render visible what we want known, as opposed to obscuring our secrets. Read more...

Parent to Parent: The Lower School Experience
Lower school parents are invited to attend an informal gathering to discuss the lower school experience on Tuesday, February 19, at 7:00 p.m., at the Herrick House, 269 Highland Street, Dedham (next to the upper parking lot). 
EDP Happenings
This week at Pre-K Stay n Play, we traveled to the land down under, Australia!! We learned about the large variety of native animals, including the Wallaby, Kangaroo, Koala, and Crocodile! We sang a super cool song about the Kookaburra! We also learned about the Great Barrier reef and its importance to the ocean's ecosystem. 

Registration is now closed for EDP after-school activities.

It's awards' season for all of us who are involved with books for children and young adults. On Monday, the American Library Association (ALA) announced their choices for the 2019 Newbery, Caldecott, Coretta Scott King Award, and numerous others for outstanding books, authors, and illustrators.  This week, I would like to introduce the winner and honor books of the 2019 Caldecott Award. This award "was named in honor of nineteenth-century English illustrator Randolph Caldecott." ...

Work by Woodworking Teacher Gerry Clifford Accepted to Juried Show
Congratulations to Gerry Clifford whose piece "Gold on Willow" was accepted to the Duxbury Art Association Winter Juried Show. The show opens this weekend with a gala opening on Saturday, February 2, from 6:30-9:00 p.m. Tickets are $50 at the door, or $40 online at duxburyart.org. The show runs February 3 through April 13,  Sunday through Wednesday, 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. For more information, call 781-934-6634.
