2019 Lakeside Symphony Orchestra
The Lakeside Symphony Orchestra (LSO) , established in 1963, is one of Lakeside’s most cherished traditions. Bringing classical music to guests of all ages, the orchestra will perform six evening concerts and two youth matinees this summer. The LSO is comprised of more than 80 musicians from across the country, many of whom have devoted years of service to Lakeside.
Daniel Meyer, Music Director & Conductor
This summer marks the first of Daniel Meyer’s tenure as Music Director & Conductor of the Lakeside Symphony Orchestra.

A native of Cleveland and current resident of Pittsburgh, Meyer has reinvigorated orchestras with his innovative programs, engaging presence and keen musical intellect.

As Music Director of the Erie Philharmonic, Meyer has built the ensemble into one of the finest and most vibrant orchestras of its kind with enthusiastic community support, sold-out concerts and a deep commitment to music education and community involvement. Read more...

Create a LSO subscription ! Simply select a minimum of three evening concerts, or all six, saving you more than 25% off a single-pass purchase. Through this online-only offer, select three or more symphony shows to receive the discounted rate of $18 per concert.

Subscription passes are valid the day of the concert from 5-11 p.m. Once you’ve completed your concert selections, you’ll be prompted to add an Auto Pass and Youth Concerts. Staying overnight? Purchase a Daily Chautauqua Pass , which allows admission to the concert and Lakeside until 7 p.m. the following day.

For Season Chautauqua Pass holders, there's no need to purchase a subscription, as all shows and concerts are included with your Season Pass.

The LSO’s Opening Night Concert features Antonín Dvorak’s “Violin Concerto” with soloist Jinjoo Cho. The second half showcases Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s “Symphony No. 4.”

A native of Seoul, South Korea, Cho moved to Cleveland at the age of 14 to study at the Cleveland Institute of Music (CIM). Cho completed her Bachelor of Music degree both at the Curtis Institute of Music and the CIM. She also received her Master of Music and Professional Studies from CIM.

This new event, in partnership with the Firelands Symphony Orchestra Education Program, is the perfect family experience to introduce children of all ages to the LSO in concert. Learn about the instruments, their families and how they all work together to make amazing music.

Enjoy the journey with LSO Music Director & Conductor Daniel Meyer and narrator Michael Shirtz as they explore the world of the orchestra through the "National Anthem" and Benjamin Britten’s " Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra." Following the concert, all are invited to join the musicians in the lobby to play and learn more about the instruments.

Hoover Auditorium
This special concert with Verb Ballets opens with Felix Mendelssohn’s “‘Italian Symphony No. 4.” The program continues with scenes from Georges Bizet’s beloved opera, Carmen .

Under the direction of Producing Artistic Director Margaret Carlson, PhD, and Dickinson, Verb Ballets will present a show that ignites passion with the energy, beauty and athleticism of dance. This concert is supported by the Iva M. Clark Memorial Endowment.

Hoover Auditorium
This concert is in memoriam of Robert L. Cronquist , LSO Music Director & Conductor from 1971-2017, who passed away on September 11, 2018. Because of his devotion to Lakeside's arts pillar, the LSO has remained a cherished tradition for more than five decades. The symphony pays tribute with the theme of "Friends in Music."

2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 8
Hoover Auditorium
Dress up in your favorite team’s clothing and listen to the Lakeside Symphony (LSO) in a special concert celebrating the world of music and sports. In partnership with the Firelands Symphony Orchestra Education Program, learn how sports and music are so closely related through teamwork, practice and dedication.

Musical repertoire includes Julius Fucik’s “Entry of the Gladiators,” Michael Torke’s “Javelin,” John Williams’ “Olympic Fanfare” and more. Following the concert, all are invited to join the musicians in the lobby to create your own take-home instruments. 
8:15 p.m. Friday, Aug. 9
Hoover Auditorium
This special Pops performance by the LSO will feature crooner Steve Lippia in “Simply Swingin’ with Sinatra & Friends.” This show will treat audiences to timeless hits such as “Beyond the Sea,” “It Had To Be You,” “I Love You Just the Way You Are” and more.

8:15 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 13

This concert opens with Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s famous “Symphony No. 25 in G minor” and continues with Joaquin Rodrigo’s “Concierto de Aranjuez” featuring guitarist Colin Davin. The LSO concludes with the “Suite from Der Rosenkavalier” by Richard Strauss.

Davin has emerged as one of today’s most dynamic young artists. He has been hailed as “the real thing, a player with a virtuoso’s technique, a deeply expressive musicianship and a probing imagination” by American Record Guide.

8:15 p.m. Friday, Aug. 16
Hoover Auditorium
Join fellow Lakesiders in celebrating the closing of the 56th season of the LSO. This concert features pianist Angelin Chang performing Camille Saint-Saëns’ “Piano Concerto No. 2” and concludes with Johannes Brahms' “Symphony No. 1, Op. 68.”

Chang, an internationally-acclaimed pianist, is the first American female and the first pianist of Asian heritage to be awarded a Grammy Award for Best Instrumental Soloist with Orchestra.
