With a month to go before the March 12 town election, incumbent Julie Araskog has raised and spent more money than Rene Silvin in their contest for a Palm Beach Town Council seat. Through Jan. 31, Araskog raised $235,485 and spent $62,543, according to her latest campaign treasurer's report filed Monday with the town clerk's office.

The process of establishing checkpoints and road closures in and around Mar-A-Lago will begin Friday, February 15, 2019, no later than 5AM. Expect traffic delays and road closures in this area thru Monday, February 18, 2019. Motorists are encouraged to seek alternate routes.

Palm Beach Approves Private Club Despite Opposition
After months of debate and despite fierce opposition from neighbors, the Town Council on Wednesday gave permission for the Carriage House private club to open at 264 and 270 S. County Road. Before approving the application, the council approved about 30 operating conditions the Carriage House owner and management will be required to follow.

Experts Share Tips on
Greener Landscapes
Seats were hard to come by at Monday's town meeting focusing on healthier, toxin-free gardening and landscaping practices. And the enthusiasm didn't end with the meeting. Town Councilwoman Bobbie Lindsay, a member of the Garden Club of Palm Beach who helped organize the event, later said she's received many inquiries from residents who want to abandon pesticides and chemicals in favor of greener landscaping practices.

Town Council to Appoint a Member to the Retirement Board of Trustees
The Town of Palm Beach is seeking to appoint two (2) members to the Retirement Board of Trustees effective April 9, 2019. Currently, there are two (2) members whose terms will expire on April 9, 2019 and all are eligible to apply for another term. The Retirement Board of Trustees acts in a fiduciary capacity for the Town's retirement funds and in an advisory capacity to the Town Council on matters relating to the administration of the Town's various retirement plans.

Boat Still on the Beach Near
Mar-a-Lago; Owner Cited
The boat that washed up more than three weeks ago on the beach just north of Mar-a-Lago, with no souls on board, eventually would reveal a twisted tale stretching from Miami to Palm Beach to the Treasure coast to the Bahamas to Costa Rica. A saga of human smuggling, hurricanes, vanished owners, and a cross-connection to an alleged con job.

Man Who Ran 72-Foot Yacht Aground Settles with Palm Beach
A lawsuit filed by the Town of Palm Beach against a man who police say was drunk when he ran his 72-foot yacht aground near the Palm Beach Inlet in September 2016 was resolved between the two parties, court documents show. Thomas Henry Baker Jr., the defendant in the suit, pleaded guilty in September 2017 to one count of willful and wanton reckless operation of a vessel in connection to the Sept. 7, 2016, incident.

After $100 million and years of renovations, the Norton Museum of Art in West Palm Beach reopened to the public Saturday morning. Thousands of other visitors were the first to make their way into the West Palm Beach museum for its grand re-opening to the public Saturday morning.

Barron and her team were exclusive financial advisors to David Ian Productions Limited when it sold a majority stake in its company to a joint venture controlled by Raven Capital Management, LLC, of New York. The David Ian company produces and co-produces hit musicals such as "Chicago," "Cats," "The Sound of Music," and "Annie" in the U.S. and abroad.

Tropical Shipping Adding More
Vessels at Port of Palm Beach
Tropical Shipping is adding more vessels to the Port of Palm Beach. Four were in port last Friday. They reported on their website: "Tropical Shipping is committed to the Caribbean market and its changing needs. We have invested $150 million in six new vessels that are custom-built to better serve the region.

Schools Will Hire Police Officers and Counselors with New Tax Money in Palm Beach County
A surge of new tax money will pay for teacher raises, 110 more police officers and an assortment of mental health professionals in Palm Beach County schools next year. Under a budget proposal presented to the School Board on Wednesday, every middle school would have three guidance counselors, up from one or two at most schools.

Judge Won't End Decades-Old Everglades Cleanup Oversight
A federal judge on Monday refused to end a decades-old court order that oversees water quality and environmental restoration in the sensitive Florida Everglades. Miami U.S. District Judge Federico Moreno rejected a motion by the South Florida Water Management District to end a decree signed in 1992.

Shark Fishing from Beach to be Restricted in Florida
Florida plans a crackdown on shark fishing from the beach, a controversial practice that yields hair-raising videos of writhing 12-foot hammerheads being hauled ashore. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission will vote Feb. 20 on proposals to restrict the practice, in a plan intended to protect sharks and swimmers.
