Women Physicians' Red Dress Collegiality Dinner & Discussion
This Wednesday, February 20
5:30 PM Wine & Hors d'Oeuvres, 6:30 PM Dinner
Seasons 52, North Bethesda

Our physician collegiality dinners are back by popular demand in 2019!  This dinner is the first of many, and is hosted by our Women in Medicine Committee.

Women physician members are invited to don a red dress, or a power suit, for this dinner and share experiences related to being a female physician in 2019. How has it changed since Dr. Elizabeth Blackwell became the first female physician? Would she be proud? Or outraged?

Join us, together with your female colleagues, as we celebrate the many rewards (and challenges) of your life.

  • Or the one who is a great employee but you later find out failed to disclose multiple dismissals in their work history?
  • An employee excels in her position, but complains about coworkers who don't work as hard as she does?
  • Or one who threatens to quit because he can make more money elsewhere?
Join us for a Roundtable Discussion regarding the most challenging and complicated (and even amusing) employment challenges that you've encountered in your practice management career. Bring best practices, challenges, solutions, and questions to this valuable morning session with your peers.

Getting a Head Start on Flu Season: Planning and Pre-booking Vaccines
Has your practice taken the time to create or update standing orders? Standing orders, as per the Immunization Action Coalition, are "written protocols approved by a physician that allow a qualified health care professional to assess a patient's need for and administer vaccines." Standing orders streamline workflows and increase vaccination rates by expanding opportunities for vaccination in interactions with other clinicians besides the patient's primary physician.

Integrating standing orders into a practice's workflow can take time. Starting early gives staff time to learn the process and become familiar with it before flu season arrives. According to the CDC, patients should be vaccinated by the end of October for maximum effectiveness.

Send Vaccine Reminders to Patients, Beginning in the Summer
Early notices,  emailing patients ahead of existing appointments to offer flu vaccines, and reminders in waiting areas or suggestions for booking appointments at check-in and check-out   increase the likelihood that patients receive vaccinations.
