Dear Carondelet Families,

I hope that everyone was able to find a sense of peace and renewal and was able to rest over the Easter break. I wanted to send a reminder to all families that school resumes tomorrow, Monday, April 20, with a new Carondelet/DLS  Flexible Learning Schedule  that will extend to the end of the academic school year.

I would like to draw your attention to important aspects of the new schedule:

  • All AP exams are listed and will occur from May 11-22. The College Board will be working with a new format, all AP teachers have information on their Schoology pages, and you can find information about AP exams on both schools’ websites.

  • The last instructional day for Seniors will be Friday, May 15. Those seniors who are signed up for AP exams during the second week of AP testing will still take their exams. Senior students and families received a message on Friday with information on end-of-year celebrations, in particular regarding Baccalaureate and Graduation.

  • There is no special schedule dedicated to a “Final Exam Week.” End of year assessmentswhether tests, projects, or essayswill be spread out over the final weeks of instruction.

As we move forward with learning online, know that we have asked for input from both faculty and students as to what is working best and how we can create the most effective online environment possible. Online learning has proven to be as effective as face-to-face learning when class design, content resources, and student-teacher connection are implemented well. Know that the learning environment we are providing is focused on best practices and that we are most confident that our students continue to learn and be challenged in their course work.

We also know that our students miss in-person contact with their friends, their peers, their teachers, and the safety and comfort of our campus, as do our faculty and staff, and Principal. I would like to remind everyone that we also continue to provide the unique resources that are available to all students through our student life team, campus ministry, wellness counselors, athletics staff, and business office.

I want to thank everyone for your patience and understanding during this difficult time. As we live our CSJ mission, as we live Carondelet's focus on the wellbeing of our dear neighbors in the rich tradition of our founding Sisters of St. Joseph, know that we appreciate the partnership we have formed and that we will continue the care for your daughters they are our shining light.

We look forward to welcoming our students back tomorrow.

Sincerely,

Kevin Cushing
Principal
We’re excited to share that  our next evening speaker is futurist Jody Medich —who will share her insights on how emerging technologies have the potential to turn us all into superhumans. Since we can’t all be together in person,  we’ve arranged to bring Jody to your living room via a live, online webinar.  The webinar is this Tuesday, starts at 7 PM and will wrap-up Q&A by 8:30 PM.

Jody’s presentation could not be more timely. As we spend more time at home, technology is helping us stay connected, supporting new ways to work and learn, and allowing us to share our creativity. It’s fascinating to imagine how artificial intelligence, robots, virtual reality, and other new technologies can help us be better prepared for future challenges like this—giving us the very real potential to be superhumans.

Last chance to sign up for this engaging presentation and conversation happening virtually this Tuesday.

Updates for the Class of 2021
This week, the College Board announced that they are canceling the June SAT.  Rest assured, many colleges, including the UCs, University of Oregon, and Penn to name a few, have modified their testing policies in light of COVID-19, and will be test-optional for the Class of 2021.

The College Board is adding a SAT test date in September, so students will have the opportunity to take the test in August, September, October, November, and December. Registration for the fall tests will open in May and priority will be given to those who were registered for the June test, seniors who have not tested before, and students using a fee waiver. This helpful article breaks down the changes in more detail.

College Kickstart will be conducted virtually from June 1-5. During this application bootcamp, students will write the first draft of their college essay, begin their Common Application, create their activities list, narrow their college list, and more. It’s a week of hard work that reaps great rewards.

We are adding two in-person days to Kickstart on Monday, August 3 and Tuesday, August 4.  We will use these days to build upon the work we complete virtually in June.

Students, we created a Schoology Course that will serve as your hub for all things college. Log into Schoology and click on the course “ Class of 2021: College Hub” to find all the information we have sent lately in one place.

Sophomores and Juniors
Applerouth Tutoring is offering free, full length online practice ACT or SAT exams. The exams will be offered April 25 and 26 for the ACT and May 2 and 3 for the SAT. Details .

This system is in place so that we can accommodate as many students as possible in our parking lot.

Please note this is not a first-come, first-served application process. All applications before the deadline will be considered.

Please send any parking questions to Caitlin Main , Dean of Students.
