Back to School!

Katherine’s vision for Hines Ugandan Ministries has always been to serve the orphaned and impoverished children of Uganda, beginning in the village of Kamonkoli. She desired to minister to their every need including basic, medical, educational and emotional needs, and most importantly, their spiritual needs. She has always loved teaching the children about Jesus at AWANA clubs and Sunday school as well as ministering to their families in their homes. As she desired more opportunities to nurture a strong Christian faith in these children, Katherine and her staff felt God leading them to begin a school, where the children would not only receive a quality education that is difficult to find in a small village, but would also study the Word of God. We named the school Genesis Nursery and Primary School as a symbol of the beginning and foundation for these children to grow and become Christian leaders for their country.

Many of you have generously provided for us to complete needed improvements in our school buildings while classrooms were empty during the unfortunate pandemic lockdown. We have completed the new flooring in our school restrooms, 3 classrooms and the library as well as repaired windows and added a fresh coat of paint to building 1. THANK YOU! They look wonderful and the terrazzo will be much more durable than our previous floor tiles. These are finished just in time as more grades are being allowed to return to school.

We enjoyed having Teacher Pam from Denver return to offer more training for our teachers. She stayed for 2 months this time around and the teachers were so happy for the help and guidance. With the Covid-19 restrictions it was good timing for her to teach them good small group and student assessment skills. Pam says, “What an amazing and awesome group of teachers. Pray for their grasp of a new way to teach reading and patience as they wait for the rest of the students to return.” The kids also loved learning from and spending time with Pam. She spent time at the children’s home too, reading with the kids and playing many games with them that they had no idea were educational. So sneaky!

As many of you know, some subjects are best taught with hands-on experience. Our teachers would love to have some supplies that would help them do this. Most of these are difficult to acquire in Uganda. These microscopes are a good example of teaching supplies with which we’ve had generous donors help.

We have a wish list of items that our teachers have requested on Amazon which you can purchase and have shipped to our Littleton, CO office to be sent to Uganda with teams as space allows.
