COVID-19 Legal Truck Overweight Permits
Blanket Permits - Application Available Online

Members,

As previously mentioned , there is a temporary permit available that increases the maximum allowable gross vehicle weight from 80,000 to 88,000 pounds for motor carriers transporting essential goods.

CTA staff worked directly with Caltrans to finalize the permit application package, which now provides for a blanket permit rather than the single trip format. Permits will be issued to individual companies and multiple copies can be distributed to their fleets. Companies seeking the permit will need to submit a completed application with a hauling equipment list that includes information on all trucks being used under the blanket permit.

To apply: Download, fill out, and submit the  Fleet Permit application (PDF) Hauling Equipment List for single trailer (XLSX) , and  Hauling Equipment List for double trailers (XLSX)   if applicable. A completed application must be submitted via fax (919-322-4966) or email to  Oversize.Overweght.Permits@dot.ca.gov .

Approved blanket permits will be valid until July 11, 2020 or for the duration of the declared emergency, whichever is earlier.

More information about the Legal Truck Overweight Permits for Essential Goods can be found on Caltrans Transportation Permits website .

Caltrans will assist carriers with securing this permit in local jurisdictions. If you have an issue connecting with local jurisdictions or with securing this permit, CTA recommends you utilize one of the CTA member permit service providers listed below.
