The Program in Medical Education for the Urban Underserved (PRIME-US) is a five-year track at the UCSF School of Medicine and the UC Berkeley-UCSF Joint Medical Program for students committed to working with urban underserved communities. Several UCSF students and faculty members in the program have received prestigious awards for their contributions to health equity and social justice.

With the academic year 2020-21 almost behind us, what was a year of challenges, also afforded the GME Pathways program unique opportunities to grow and adapt. GME Pathways is a multi-disciplinary, inter-professional program open to UCSF learners at all training levels. Compared to 2019-2020, learners that participated in our various pathways almost doubled to over 200 participants; and we believe the flexibility of virtual learning, the creativity of our lecturers and leadership team, and the resounding need of learners to have a community of practice were key components for this success.

The Last Lecture features a UCSF faculty member nominated and selected by students to answer one question: "If you had but one lecture to give, what would you say?" This lecture will bring out stories intertwining various dimensions of the chosen faculty member's trajectory - encompassing the professional, personal, spiritual, and cultural experiences that have brought them to where they are today.
We're honored that this year's recipient, Peter Chin-Hong, MD, honors this tradition by sharing his life experiences and its impact on his work.

How Are You Coping? Photo Submission and Share Contest
|
|
Last month, one year into the pandemic and Academy members readily shared how they were feeling about the moment we were in and our word cloud is still growing! So now, how about a photo contest? Send a photo submission to our team - submitters receive a little something from us!
Photo submission theme - share a hopeful or optimistic moment you've experienced in the past year!
Send your photo with a short caption to Karen Brent, karen.brent@ucsf.edu. Submissions will be featured in our next CFE newsletter!
