Dr. Fernández is widely recognized for her extensive contributions and research on health care equity in chronic disease and racism in medicine. She is the founding Director of the Latinx Center of Excellence (LCOE) and Director of the Center for Vulnerable Populations Program in Latinx and Immigrant Health. She is a Professor of Medicine at UCSF, and a general internist at ZSFG, where she practices primary care medicine and attends the medical wards.
The Program in Medical Education for the Urban Underserved (PRIME-US) is a five-year track at the UCSF School of Medicine and the UC Berkeley-UCSF Joint Medical Program for students committed to working with urban underserved communities. Several UCSF students and faculty members in the program have received prestigious awards for their contributions to health equity and social justice.
With the academic year 2020-21 almost behind us, what was a year of challenges, also afforded the GME Pathways program unique opportunities to grow and adapt. GME Pathways is a multi-disciplinary, inter-professional program open to UCSF learners at all training levels. Compared to 2019-2020, learners that participated in our various pathways almost doubled to over 200 participants; and we believe the flexibility of virtual learning, the creativity of our lecturers and leadership team, and the resounding need of learners to have a community of practice were key components for this success.
The Last Lecture features a UCSF faculty member nominated and selected by students to answer one question: "If you had but one lecture to give, what would you say?" This lecture will bring out stories intertwining various dimensions of the chosen faculty member's trajectory - encompassing the professional, personal, spiritual, and cultural experiences that have brought them to where they are today.

We're honored that this year's recipient, Peter Chin-Hong, MD, honors this tradition by sharing his life experiences and its impact on his work.

Regular group consultations, a monthly journal club, regional and national conferences, and multi-institution research collaborations are part of the regular work of the group, and learners are involved at all levels.
