December 14, 2018
Hi all,

They say that "laughter is the best medicine." In times of stress (like the last couple of weeks before the holiday break, upcoming semester end, and the winter blues) it can be very helpful for us all to try to gain perspective and laugh a little.

I remember my lunch breaks at Edgerton High School - we had rules* about what we could and could not talk about during lunch. Students? No. People that annoyed us? No. (If anyone said anything bad about someone else, they immediately had to then say something good about that person.) I looked forward to that lunch break every day because it was a sunny spot when I knew my friends and I would have fun, and often funny conversations. Were there times when I was so busy that I felt I didn't have time for lunch? Yes - - but I never missed lunch. Taking care of myself was too important.

In January, we'll be offering a session on "Mindfulness." Strategies in that presentation might help you keep perspective during a busy day at school. Then in February, there's a session on "The Science of Happiness." That sounds promising!

What works for you to keep you laughing (and healthy)?

--Peace
