Around Abilene

Abilene has another mural to add to its list of community art. The digitized Wild Bill Hickok mural was created by William Counter from Chapman, Kansas. Counter also created the digitized mural of President Eisenhower. This mural is on the side of Dave's Guns along Highway 15/Buckeye in downtown Abilene across from the Abilene Visitors Center.

Thanks to the Arts Council of Dickinson County and the Dickinson County Community Foundation for funding and coordinating this mural.

We love group tours! This lucky group from Nebraska stopped at Amanda's Bakery & Bistro for a sweet treat.

From Fort Riley to the Eisenhower Marathon, we've had a great week promoting Abilene! Listening to Fort Riley Brigadier General Patrick Frank tell the audience about his visit to Abilene was a special bonus!

Another Great Marathon!

Runners from across the country, Canada and Belize met in Abilene to run in the 15th annual  Eisenhower Marathon . The 2017 Marathon had more full marathon runners than in previous years. And Mary Jean Eisenhower was in town to present winners with their medals.

Thanks to the great work of June DeWeese, Will Sprouse, the Viola family and the incredible team of volunteers for making this event a success! The best part: money raised is donated back to groups that serve those in need.

Learn more about the Viola family in this great story from the Dickinson County Heritage Center!
