Bradley honored by N.H. Dental Society

CONCORD - The New Hampshire Dental Society convened its annual fall/winter meeting on Friday, Nov. 8, and honored state Sen. Jeb Bradley (R-Wolfeboro) with its 2019 Legislative Achievement Award. Alongside the NHDS Council on Governmental Affairs and Board of Trustees, NHDS President Dr. Lindsey Jackson made a special presentation to Bradley, commending him for advancing oral health care and steadfastly supporting New Hampshire's dentists. "The New Hampshire Dental Society is proud to present Senator Bradley with our first Legislative Achievement Award," said Jackson.

"Senator Bradley clearly understands the importance of oral health to our healthcare system. He has been a strong voice in the creation and implementation an adult dental Medicaid benefit, increasing Medicaid provider rates and for fluoridation in water. "We are thankful for his leadership and his willingness to work with our members to improve the oral health of the people of New Hampshire."

Bradley thanked Jackson and NHDS membership in his speech, stating, "I am grateful to Dr. Jackson and the NHDS Board of Trustees for honoring me with their first Legislative Achievement Award. "I have learned a great deal working with NH's dentists in the State Senate, and I look forward to continuing our work together to find a 'New Hampshire Way' in creating the adult dental Medicaid benefit," Bradley said. "Together, we will continue to advocate for improving oral health policies because better oral health means a more effective healthcare system and a stronger economy with more people entering the workforce," he said.

With over 1,000 members, the New Hampshire Dental Society is the professional association of dentists and oral health professionals representing more than 73 percent of the practicing dentists in the state. The purpose of NHDS is to assist its members in providing and promoting the highest professional levels of oral health care for the citizens they serve and to disseminate knowledge pertaining to the advancement of health.

Prescription Writing Update!

As we mentioned last fall, Senate Bill 377 took effect on August 24, 2018. It includes expansion of RSA317-A;21 c which now allows the administration, prescription and dispensing of a fluoride supplement, topically applied fluoride and chlorhexidine gluconate oral rinse as dental hygieine service.
The rule package has been submitted and we expect to finally be able to write the above prescriptions in mid 2020.
In order to be able to write prescriptions a Hygienist will be required to have an NPI number and current CPR certification.  We will likely be required to carry private liability insurance.  Liability coverage by a Hygienist's employer will not be sufficient. Please visit the ADHA Website for information on private liability insurance offered to members.
