TAD Talks
Betty Cardenas
National Chairwoman, Republican National Hispanic Assembly
Donald Trump's campaign to Keep America Great is attracting Americans from all backgrounds, religions, races and creeds. Most notably are those groups that the Democrats have taken for granted. Black Americans and those of Latin heritage are at the forefront of this exit from the Democrat Party or as they've deemed it, 'Blexit' and 'Lexit.'

Betty Cardenas joins me for this week's Talking with TAD to discuss the Lexit movement and the excitement among Hispanics to re-elect President Trump. She's a leader of the Republican National Hispanic Assembly, an organization organizing Hispanics who are supporting the President and outreaching to those individuals who may not yet be supporting Trump... but certainly should be!

President Trump Nominates Judge Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court

President Trump has an obligation to fill the seat and he has nominated an exceptional jurist, Judge Amy Coney Barrett, to be our next Supreme Court Justice. By nominating Judge Barrett, President Trump is following precedent by acting to fill the seat and he has selected a judge who will apply the law as written and enforce the text, structure, and original understanding of the Constitution. Judiciary Chairman Lindsey Graham has indicated the Senate will hold fair hearings that allow the American people to hear from the nominee. Sadly, Democrats have already decided to blindly oppose Judge Barrett’s nomination. It’s time for Senate Democrats to do their job and confirm Judge Barrett.

What you need to know:
  • President Trump has nominated Judge Amy Coney Barrett to be our next Supreme Court Justice.
  • Judge Barrett understands that the role of a judge is to faithfully interpret the law, not to legislate from the bench.
  • She has sterling academic credentials – received her B.A. from Rhodes College and is a graduate of Notre Dame Law School.
  • She is a former Justice Antonin Scalia clerk who currently sits on the 7th Circuit which hears appeals from Illinois, Indiana, and Wisconsin.
  • President Trump nominated her to the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals, and she was confirmed by a bipartisan vote on October 31, 2017. Sitting Senators Kaine and Manchin voted to confirm Judge Barrett.
  • Judge Barrett has received bipartisan support from the legal community.
  • In 2017, a bipartisan group of law professors urged the Senate to confirm Judge Barrett to the 7th Circuit Court.
  • All of her colleagues at Notre Dame Law school supported her 2017 nomination citing Judge Barrett as a “role model for all of us, and a model of the fair, impartial, and sympathetic judge.”
  • The American Bar Association rated Professor Barrett as “well qualified.”
  • The President’s action to fill the seat dates back more than 200 years.
  • In 2016, Democrats pushed to fill the vacant seat and have a fully staffed court of 9.
  • In both 2016 and 2018, the American people elected a President and a Senate Republican majority who are committed to selecting judicial nominees who believe in applying the Constitution as written.
  • This situation is nothing like the 2016 vacancy and it is incorrect for Democrats to compare the two vacancies.
  • Senate Control has overwhelmingly determined the fate of Election-year Supreme Court nominations.
  • 15 times in U.S. history, a Supreme Court vacancy arose in a presidential election year and the President nominated someone that year.
  • 7 of those 15 times, voters had put in place an opposite-party Senate. Only 2 of these 7 nominations were confirmed.
  • 8 of those 15 times, voters had chosen a Senate majority of the same party as the President. 7/8 nominations were confirmed. The only nominee who was not confirmed faced serious questions of judicial ethics.
  • There is time to have a fair confirmation process. Previous Supreme Court Justices have been confirmed in less than 45 days – when the seat became vacant.
  • Justice Ginsburg was confirmed in just 42 days after her nomination.
  • Justice Stevens was confirmed in just 19 days after his nomination.
  • Justice O’Connor was confirmed in just 33 days after her nomination.
  • President Trump’s selection of Judge Barrett will energize Republicans with 37 days to go until Election Day.
  • The President’s focus on the Supreme Court was the center of his election in 2016.
  • Pew Research Center Poll found 65% of Americans considered the Supreme Court “very important” to their 2016 vote.
  • The Washington Post found 26% of all Trump voters suggested the most important reason the chose to vote for the President was the Supreme Court.
  • Republicans expanded their Senate majority in 2018 immediately following the confirmation of Justice Kavanaugh.
  • Since running for office in 2016, Donald Trump has been fully transparent with his list of potential Supreme Court nominees and has made his selections from that list.
  • Since taking office, President Trump has nominated and the Senate has confirmed an astonishing 218 Article III judges.
  • Joe Biden has yet to release a list of potential Supreme Court nominees, despite his promise to do so.
  • Biden admits he is hiding his list of potential Supreme Court nominees to avoid scrutiny. His list would inevitably include far-left judges.
  • It’s important for the American people to know what type of judge he would select.
  • Democrats have vowed to pack the Supreme Court if they come into office. Biden refused to answer the question about packing the Supreme Court: “It’s a legitimate question...I’m not going answer.”
  • Congressional Democrats are beholden to the radical left and have already resorted to dangerous and baseless impeachment rhetoric just because President Trump will fulfill his duty to fill the vacancy.
  • Democrats have also called to abolish the Electoral College and statehood to Democrat leaning areas to gain complete power

Bottom Line:  President Trump has delivered on his promise to nominate judges who will apply the law as written, Judge Amy Coney Barrett is no exception. In 2016, Democrats said Americans deserve a fully-staffed Supreme Court of nine justices and President Trump is following his Constitutional duty, and it’s time Democrats join Republicans in holding a fair confirmation process.
