Honors Student Accepted to Graduate School
Deja Jackson is a senior Honors College student pursuing a degree in computer science. She will graduate in December of 2018. After graduation, Deja will be relocating to San Diego, California, to take a position as a Network Engineer. She will also begin a master's degree in Information Technology at Virginia Tech in the spring of 2019.
As an undergraduate student, Deja has served as a Georgia Tech Research Assistant and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Database Assistant. She's also completed internships with the Department of Defense as a Software Engineer and the Marine Corps Tactical Systems Support Activity (MCTSSA) as a Network Engineer.
In addition to these internships, Deja was a finalist in the National Center for Women in Technology Award. She was also a Google Scholar and scholarship recipient of the Science, Math, and Research for Transformation Program.
During her time at Kennesaw State University, Deja served in leadership roles for a variety of clubs and organizations. She served as Treasurer for the
Student Government Association (SGA), Senator for the College of Computing and Software Engineering, Research Assistant and Scholar for the Peach State Louis Stokes Minority Program (LSAMP), and Vice President for Object Oriented Owls.

Honors Student Collaborates with the Bentley Rare Book Museum for Capstone Project
Chris Rogers will graduate with an undergraduate degree in Biology in May of 2019. In the future, Chris aspires to become a veterinarian and open his own veterinary practice. This semester, Chis conducted a research project with Kennesaw State University's Bentley Rare Book Museum. He used his research to complete his Honors capstone project.
As part of his investigation, Chris selected works from the collection to create a window into the history of classifying organisms through evolutionary taxonomy and the alternative forms of classification that were used before Linnaeus's system, which is widely accepted today. Through completion of his project and the books studied, Chris is now able to better understand the background of biology and science as a whole.
Chris said, "Participation in the University Honors Program
has benefitted my college experience by allowing me to take some engaging classes that I would not be able to take otherwise. It has also allowed me to complete this project and earn an Honors designation, which will help to distinguish myself in applications for employment and graduate schools."

Honors Student Receives Birla Carbon Scholars Grant
Alyssa Venn is a junior Honors College student at Kennesaw State University (KSU). She is pursuing an Applied and Computational Mathematics degree. She is also on track to complete an accelerated master's degree.
Alyssa received the Birla Carbon Scholars grant which paid her to do research over the summer. This grant is for full-time students pursuing a degree in the College of Science and Mathematics who wish to work with a faculty member on an undergraduate research project during the 10-week summer program. Participating students present their final research project at the Birla Carbon Symposium.
Alyssa is a recipient of the Southeast SAS Users Group (SESUG) student grant, which allowed her to attend a conference in St. Pete Beach, Florida. During this conference, she presented her findings after analyzing the injury rates in the energy production field and how they have changed throughout recent years. She was the youngest person to present her research at this conference.
Alyssa will graduate in May of 2020, and she has plans to continue doing research in order to publish, which is something that she greatly enjoys. She hopes to work for the Centers for Disease Control or other similar institution that has research positions in the health field.
Currently, Alyssa is the Vice President of the Undergraduate Research Club and works in Lawson's Grow Baby Grow lab. Alyssa stated, "The Honors-specific classes I've taken have felt closer-knit than non-honors classes due to the smaller sizes, which leads to more discussion and deeper learning."

Honors Student and Honors Club President Accepted to Coles Scholars Program
Josh Wolfe is a junior at Kennesaw State University (KSU) majoring in Business Marketing. He is an Honors student and member of the Coles Scholars Program. This program is designed to provide unique opportunities to business students by focusing on leadership development, integrated and international studies, and community engagement and mentorship. Josh went through a rigorous application and interview process to be selected for this prestigious program.
Josh has also served as President of the KSU Honors Club since August 2018. In this leadership position, he has initiated service projects across campus including making sandwiches for Clyde's Kitchen as part of KSU's Homelessness Awareness Week. He also participated in the 2018 Honors Alternative Spring Break where he worked with Habitat for Humanity.
Josh said, "The Honors College at Kennesaw State University has provided me the opportunity to dive deeper into my degree. In my two Honors Discoveries, I was afforded the opportunity to learn about diverse topics not typically covered in standard classrooms such as bone records of Soviet Russia. I also had a chance to volunteer with Habitat for Humanity. I have been influenced by some of the greatest instructors at Kennesaw State all because of the Honors College."
After graduation, Joshua plans to seek employment in a marketing department for an Atlanta-based Fortune 500 company such as Coca-Cola, Chick-Fil-A, or UPS.
