Palm Beach Civic Association Holds 75th Anniversary Holiday Party

The Palm Beach Civic Association held its annual Holiday Party at The Breakers with 325 members in attendance. Guests enjoyed cocktails and hors d'oeuvres in the Circle Ballroom, with music by the Joe Scott duo.
Civic Association Chairman and CEO Bob Wright welcomed everyone to the party.

The Palm Beach Civic Association is delighted to bring cardiothoracic surgeon and television personality, Dr. Mehmet Oz to The Breakers for an inspiring program filled with wellness advice and encouragement for a fit lifestyle.
The event is our only fundraiser for the season, and supports programs and education initiatives throughout the year. Individual tickets, VIP packages, and table sponsorship are available.

Palm Beach Sends Out Surveys for Compensation Study
The town's compensation study has officially begun. Palm Beach sent out its 28 surveys to nearby agencies and municipalities on Monday, Human Resources Director Danielle Olson told the Town Council on Tuesday, starting the clock on a comprehensive study the town hopes to complete by March.

Mayor Gail Coniglio and the Town Council have given Town Manager Kirk Blouin a glowing performance for his first nine months in office. Blouin left his post as public safety director to become town manager in February after the council decided not to renew Tom Bradford's contract last December.

Palm Beach Progresses
Buildings are popping up at the former site of Testa's restaurant on Royal Poinciana Way. This week, construction crews are finishing block walls, framing window openings and preparing for the residential level roof installation. According to Cody Crowell, managing director of construction for the Frisbie Group, work is ahead of schedule.

Fund-Raising Lopsided So Far in Town Council Race
Incumbent Julie Araskog continues to raise more money than opponent Rene Silvin in their contest for a Town Council seat in the March 12 election. Araskog amassed $209,385 to Silvin's $24,721 as of Nov. 30, according to their respective treasurer's reports filed with the town clerk's office.

16-Day Presidential Holiday Visit to Mar-a-Lago - Traffic Alert
An alert has been issued by the Federal Aviation Administration that warns pilots to avoid the airspace over Mar-a-Lago from Dec. 21 to Jan. 6.
Ocean Blvd. (A1A) will be road-blocked around Mar-a-Lago and there will be limited lanes of traffic over the Southern Blvd. bridge.

Grand Celebration Returns to
Palm Beach
Bahamas Paradise Cruise Line announced that the Grand Celebration will return to her homeport, the Port of Palm Beach, and resume a two-night sailing schedule beginning on Friday, December 21. The Grand Celebration was chartered for the past two months to assist with restoration of service to communities impacted by the Massachusetts gas incident, according to the cruise line.

Florida's Water Future: Where is it Going? Where Will it Come From?
Florida's problem isn't a lack of water, but where it is, how it's used, where it gets dumped when we're through with it, and how much it will cost by 2035 to satisfy farms, 5 million new Floridians - and the needs of the environment.
Florida tapped 6.4 billion gallons of water per day three years ago. By 2035, Florida will need another 1.1 billion gallons a day, a 17% increase.
The good news: The state's water management districts - the water-use regulatory bodies that cover the state - have identified enough water conservation opportunities and water supply projects to keep the water flowing in Florida through at least 2035.

County Gets $500,000 for Red Tide Cleanup, Will Share with Cities
Palm Beach County has received $500,000 from the state government for red tide clean up reimbursement. Now the county plans to disperse the money to municipalities to refund them for their own red tide-related expenses.

Police Remind Bicyclists to "Share the Road" When Riding on the Town Bike Path and Sidewalks
The safety of everyone using the bike path, sidewalks and roadways is a priority for the Palm Beach Police Department. In the State of Florida, bicycles are considered vehicles and both cars and bicycles must share the road. Additionally, bicyclists must watch for pedestrians on roadways, bike paths and sidewalks.
