Apalachicola, Florida......................................................December 15, 2018

The next time you hear from me (in the Bay View) it will be 2019! It’s hard to believe another year has gone by. You have had many changes in 2018, everything from the retirement of The Rev. Martha Harris, the arrival of me, as your Priest in Charge/Interim Rector, and a huge fire in Eastpoint that affected our friends and families, to Hurricane Michael that devastated part of our Beloved “Forgotten Coast”. It will take several years to recover from the physical destruction and the emotional impact a storm of that magnitude leaves behind.
Some of you lost beloved spouses and family members that make 2018 and 2019 a tender and uncertain time for you. I, and your Trinity family, stand beside you to support you and carry you through the year of firsts and to help keep your beloved’s memory alive.
In the midst of what is so much pain and loss, there have been many highlights in 2018. The Rev. Martha Harris retired after serving 13 years as your Rector. You sent her off with a beautiful party, memory book, and well wishes.
You shared your generous spirit in caring for your neighbors in Eastpoint by donating items such as clothing, diapers, and personal care items. Over $7000 was collected and given to the Eastpoint Fire Relief Fund, much of it coming from you directly.
The Blue Grass Eucharist and community picnic welcomed Episcopalians, Baptists, Methodists, and the curious. People came from Navarre Beach, Dothan, Carrabelle, and Apalachicola.
A Pop-Up Daycare provided much needed relief to working parents in the aftermath of Hurricane Michael. “
Beginning to Heal”
was hosted by Trinity and Sarah Madsen Psy.D., for those who needed a place to talk about their experiences of Hurricane Michael. Again, you shared your generosity by contributing to Trinity’s Outreach fund for local assistance and to the Diocesan Hurricane Relief Fund.
In the wake of the massacre of 11 members of Pittsburg’s Tree of Life Synagogue, Trinity held a candlelight service on All Soul’s Day with a special remembrance of those killed on October 27
th
. Many members of the Jewish community attended and David Adlerstein read Psalm 130 in Hebrew.
Finally, we enjoyed a beautiful Thanksgiving Dinner on the day we did our Stewardship In-Gathering, and a lovely dinner to celebrate our Annual Meeting. Hard copies of the Annual Report are available in the office.
It has been a very good year. Our stewardship pledges are continuing to come in so we will continue strong mission and ministry in Apalachicola.
Together, we are reminding Apalachicola that Trinity Church is a safe and sacred place to gather when people want to celebrate and mourn.
-- Blessings and Peace, Donna+

Young Voices fill Benedict Hall
with Christmas Joy
|
|
A Children's Choir of seven happy voices sang Christmas songs and jingled bells under the direction of Nancy Totman with accompaniment by Randy Mims. The choir, an outgrowth of the successful popup child care service provided by Trinity following Hurricane Michael, practiced weekly for about a month prior to the performance. Close to 50 parents and other family members, as well as Trinity parishioners enjoyed the songs, followed by a spaghetti dinner featuring George Rudo's delicious pasta sauce. Thanks also to Karen Kessel, Carole & Mike Seibert, Bella Rudo, Briana Wheatley, Caroline Kienzle, and Marlene & Bob Seaborn who coordinated logistics and food prep.

The annual meeting also included reports from The Rev. Donna Gerold, 2018 accomplishments & activities; Ralph Wagoner, budget & finance; and Tom Edwards, search committee. And, of course, everyone enjoyed the fried chicken dinner with tasty sides, and an abundant array of delicious desserts. Copies of the 2018 Annual Report are available in the church office.

Update from your Search Committee
|
|
Now that the Parish Profile has been completed and published, the next step will be identifying potential candidates for priest.
The Diocese will provide names of some individuals who they are aware of having an interest. There is also a national register at the Office of Transition Ministry at the main church office in New York where our search will be advertised as well. Individuals from our parish may offer names of priests of whom they think may be a good fit but only if those priests have been contacted by our parishioner and agreed to be included in the search.
All priests from the above three sources who show interest must be vetted by our Bishop prior to our examining their application in depth. This search will be a time-consuming process. The Search Committee will continue to work as diligently and expeditiously as possible in this process. However, please be aware that because this is time-consuming, there are no time limits to get the job done in a hurry. The most important thing is to try to make the best choice for the parish.

Dear Friends at Trinity,
I truly appreciate all of your kind thoughts, prayers and good wishes during my recent incapacitation due to my ruptured Achilles tendon. Thank you for all of this visits and meals that were showered upon us. Candace and I are fortunate to be a part of such a caring and generous congregation. Trinity is truly a blessed and loving community. We are so happy to be a part of it. Thank you for all the cards and phone calls. I really felt that we were never alone in our trials.

Trinity
Supports Girls Basketball Team
|
Trinity's Outreach Committee provided financial support for the Franklin County High School Girls Basketball Team, enabling them to acquire new equipment this year. In a letter to Trinity, Coach Tydron Wynn stated, "You have put smiles on each of the girls' faces. For the first time in six years, the girls have travel jerseys, travel gear, balls, and equipment. Without you, none of this would have been possible".
