National President
Amanda Flener
How in the world is May over halfway behind us? They say that time flies when you're having fun and I'm so grateful that I was able to meet with Auxiliary Members and Patriots recently...in person! I just returned from a quick trip to Wisconsin where I was honored to be able to install our Auxiliary officers there.
This past weekend, Five of our Departments met for Conventions and Three of them were in person. How amazing! With the CDC's recent announcements of lessening restrictions for gatherings and mask requirements for many in a variety of places, I'm glad to see our members able to fellowship again. While I was in Wisconsin, National SVP Colleen was able to meet with our Auxiliary in Ohio while National JVP KayJo met virtually with California. Colleen helped us by pulling double duty and also installing our Texas officers over Zoom on Saturday. I even managed a quick few minutes to jump on and say, "hello."
National Convention - Charleston, WV - August 2-4 (Travel can be in on the 1st and out on the 5th if you desire). Details were sent out last week via email and updates are on our website - www.PurpleheartAuxiliary.org - New info: PNP/PNC luncheon has no cost so please do not remit the fee if you would like to attend. Additionally, NEC reimbursement is not expected to be at the usual full rates. More details will follow as it is available. If you would be interested in having a room mate, please let us know and we will work to pair you with someone compatible.
Update on my dad - Many of you know that while I was in Washington DC just a few weeks ago, my father was hit by a semi truck in Savannah, GA. While he is out of the Trauma ICU now and in a regular room, he is still hospitalized and has a long recovery ahead. He suffered from 21 broke ribs, had surgery to repair his lungs, spine, and is awaiting rotator cuff surgery. My mother and I have appreciated those who have reached out appreciate your continued prayers.
Hope to see you in West Virginia,
Amanda

Conventions are almost over and your Units/Departments should have had elections and installations by now. Your Installation report is due no later than May 31, 2021. If submitted by email, I go by the date I receive it. If it is mailed, then I use the postmark. This is the first of your requirements to be eligible for a rebate.
If you have some one planning to attend the National Convention in Charleston West Virginia, be sure to fill out a DELEGATE/ALTERNATE form (found online) so your representative will be able to vote your Unit strength. They are due by June 30. In some cases, the form can be brought with the Delegate/Alternate to convention for the Credentials people.
Lastly…if anyone is wishing to run for an office at National…a LETTER OF INTENT must be turned in by May 31. This helps with the convention planning for time needed during nominations. Mention your qualifications and “that if elected, it would be your honor to serve”.
Thanks everyone for the support of our Veterans.

May is traditionally a month chock full of memories - some heart breaking and others so full of joy, it is hard to contain. As I remember some special days, perhaps some memories will be stirred in you as well. May, named for a Greek goddess, Maia, means spring and growth. I am looking for both in our MOPH family. May 7 is Military Spouse Day but in reality, every day is your spouse’s day. May 9 is Victory in Europe Day (VE Day) and also Mother’s Day. So many of our mothers have served in the military, had children to serve and are Gold Star mothers. We remember every special mom on this day! May 15 is Armed Forces Day. There are so many days to reflect on and offer thanks for. Perhaps the most meaningful to me is May 31, the day set aside to truly remember our fallen heroes. Take time to celebrate your spouse on the 7th- maybe share some timely music, a nice dinner and decadent dessert and laugh together, as you reminisce. Memorial Day brings a flood of memories for all of us, so take time to support those whose who sacrificed everything for us. Visit a cemetery and place a flag on the graves and leave a penny. The penny left at the grave signals that someone visited that spot and remembered that veteran. Those of us who understand the sacrifice will never forget

Prayer For Strength
Lord, at the moment nothing seems to be able to help the loss I feel.
My heart is broken and my spirit mourns.
All I know is that Your grace is sufficient.
This day, this hour, moment by moment I choose to lean on You.
For when I am at my weakest, Your strength is strongest.
I pour out my grief to you and praise You that on one glorious day when all suffering is extinguished and love has conquered, we shall walk together again.
Lord, I ask You to strengthen our sisters and brothers. In Your name I pray Amen.
