Who Really Discovered America?

This week third graders in 3J and 3G performed the play "Who Really Discovered America?" The play started as a research project, with each student taking on the role of an historical figure who claims to have discovered America. The cast included the usual suspects--Christopher Columbus and Leif Ericsson--as well as lesser known people from China, Europe, and Africa, plus some Native Americans. Students were given questions to answer, and they used various readings to help them find and then expand the answers. The final answers were expected to include plenty of detail and personality. Those answers became the script for the play, a mock game show. It was fantastic!

Peabody's Got Talent!

Congratulations to all our student participants who performed at the Peabody K-5 Talent Show at IX Art Park last week!

We are already looking forward to seeing our middle school students perform at the Middle School Cabaret in March!

Peabody Alumni Spotlight

Peabody alumnus Darius Wynn attended Peabody from 6th through 8th grade, but you can still regularly see him back on campus, advising our 8th grade entrepreneurship class this year! (Sometimes he stops and says hi to his parents, Peabody Athletic Director Waki Wynn and Resource/Enrichment/Service Learning Specialist Traci Wynn :) We took the opportunity to ask Darius about his experiences at Peabody and what he is working on now. Panther Corps Penny Wars - Coming January 2019!

7th Grade students are proud to announce their first fundraising effort, Panther Corps Penny Wars, which will take place in January 2019.

During morning arrival each day in January, 7th graders will be hosting Penny Wars in the main entrance to raise funds for their Panther Corps partner organizations: Hoothon at UVA, the Wildlife Center, the International Rescue Committee (IRC), and the Albemarle Housing Improvement Program (AHIP).

Bring your spare change any morning in January to play Plinko and see which organization your funds will support! 

In Search of Puppies!

Our middle school filmmaking course (in partnership with Light House Studios) would like to do a short film documenting student reactions to a surprise visit from some puppies during the school day. They need your help! We are looking for a small group of puppies (2-3) to visit on the morning of Friday January 11th -- if you have any leads, please Ms. Young know!
