First Semester Final Exams
Prepare for the 2-day exam schedule on December 20 and 21.
Lake Park's first semester
final exam schedule
will take place over two days on
Thursday, December 20 and Friday, December 21
.
During these exam days, all Lake Park students will have access to meal service, tutoring, and bus transportation that is provided on a typical school day. Buses will depart approximately 10 minutes after the end of the day and late buses will still run as usual departing at
4:00 p.m. and 5:45 p.m. from East Campus and 3:45 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. from West Campus.
To help Lancers prepare for finals, the
Bloomingdale Public Library will host "Exam Cram" daily from
December 18-20 from 3:00 to 9:00 p.m. for any student in grades 9-12, including non-Bloomingdale residents. Students will have access to group and quiet study areas, reference help, Wi-Fi and computers. The library will provide caffeine, snacks and serve pizza at 7:00 p.m.

Lancers Spread Holiday Cheer
Sharing generosity and joy throughout the school and community.
Lake Park students, teachers and staff have been engaged in numerous philanthropic and volunteer efforts the past several weeks to help community neighbors and spread holiday cheer. Below are a few highlights:
Deck the Halls
The tradition continues! Special thanks to Lake Park's Stand for the Silent student organization for greeting classmates and staff on
December 13
at East Campus and
today
at West Campus with hot chocolate. The sounds of the
choir
and
jazz band
filled the front entrances with holiday music and added to the festive spirit!
Notes of Joy
West Campus Civics in Action students as well as members of the Lake Park Key Club have spent time making cards for children in hospitals and troops abroad to brighten spirits during the holiday season.
Caroling Choir
The Lake Park Choir could be heard singing songs of the season while caroling at the Roselle Cocoa Crawl and on campus welcoming Lancers to school.
"Giving Tree"
Once again, the East Campus Sophomore Class Council generously sponsored the annual "Giving Tree" to benefit underprivileged children in Bloomingdale Township. Lancer students and staff were invited to take a bell with age/gift description for families in need and return a wrapped gift with the bell taped to the present. Additionally this year, "teen-friendly" gift cards such as Playstation, iTunes, Starbucks, and Dunkin Donuts have been collected to benefit older children in the community.

"Almost, Maine" Takes Center Stage
Nine short plays featuring 19 students explore love and loss.
Enjoy the holiday season with the romantic comedy
Almost, Maine
. Following a successful opening night, the show runs through this weekend on
December 14 at 7:30 p.m and December 15 at 7:00 p.m.
in the East Campus Dice Auditorium.
Ticket prices are $5 for adults, $3 students (other high schools and college), and free for senior citizens, Lake Park students with ID and children under 13 years old.

The show features nine short plays that explore love and loss in a remote, mythical almost-town in northern Maine. Originally written for four actors, this production has cast 19 students. Theatre-goers will laugh, cry and leave filled with a sense of wonder and awe that only the northern lights could bring.

Illinois State Scholars
Recognizing the academic achievement of 99 Lancers.
Lake Park High School is proud to announce that 99 seniors have been named Illinois State Scholars for the graduating class of 2019. Presented annually by the Illinois Student Assistance Commission, this prestigious recognition honors the top 10 percent of high school seniors statewide for their academic performance. Selection is based on SAT, ACT and/or and scores on the Prairie State Achievement Exam.

Flags for Roselle
Student and community members are the heart of this volunteer organization.
During the past calendar year, the
Flags for Roselle organization installed 3x5 foot American flags in the front yard of nearly 250 homes on five holidays: Memorial Day, Flag Day, Independence Day, Patriots Day and Veterans' Day.
Now with two years completed, this annual subscription service relies entirely on student and community volunteers to help with the flag installation at dawn and removal at dusk the same day. Special thanks to these individuals who volunteer for two shifts on each of the national holidays.
Lancers deserving a special shout out include the
Veterans Service Organization
, under the direction of Lake Park teacher and activity sponsor Seth Hible, and students in the
CTE program
who contributed to building and assembling the flags.
This unique community activity represents the collaborative effort of the Roselle History Museum, the Roselle American Legion Post 1084, Roselle Girl and Boy Scouts, the Village of Roselle and Lake Park High School. Proceeds from the fundraiser are shared by the Roselle Historical Foundation, the Roselle American Legion Charitable Foundation, Boy Scouts of Roselle, Girl Scouts of Roselle, and the Lake Park High School Educational Foundation, all 501(c)(3) organizations.

Save the Date: Advanced Placement and Elective Options
Sophomores and juniors invited to explore 2019-20 course options.
Current sophomores and juniors, along with parents or guardians, are cordially invited to attend Lake Park's Elective and Advanced Placement (AP) Information Night on
Thursday, January 10, 2019.
This program provides an opportunity for families to hear about the many elective and AP courses offered at West Campus.
Families will learn how students benefit from AP courses, which are considered excellent indicators of college readiness. Likewise, attendees will be able to explore the many elective course options that reflect the varied interests of our students.
The program begins in the auditorium at 7:00 p.m. with a general overview about the evening. After that brief presentation, participants will attend an open house in the cafeteria to visit with department representatives and AP teachers. The open house provides families with an opportunity to speak directly with teachers about the format and expectations of AP courses, while also giving students a chance to explore the many elective offerings at West Campus.

Spirit of Excellence Awards
Submit student and staff nominations by January 14, 2019.
The
Lake Park Educational Foundation is accepting nominations for this year's Spirit of Excellence awards. Parents and community members may nominate students, faculty members, and staff members for these prestigious awards.
To qualify, a student must be a current senior who has demonstrated service, extraordinary effort, achievement, and leadership throughout their high school careers. Faculty and staff members who have made outstanding contributions to Lake Park may also be nominated.
Nomination forms are now available on the
LPEF website. Nominations are due on
January 14, 2019.

Welcoming the Class of 2023
Orientation event designed for incoming freshman families.
Parents of incoming freshmen in 2019-20 are invited to attend an orientation for families on
Wednesday, January 16, 2019
. This important evening will include a review of placement information, interpretation of PSAT 8 test results, and an explanation of elective course offerings. Families will also participate in an open house where they will have an opportunity to meet faculty members from each department and visit elective classrooms. More information will be sent to families during the first week of January.

Looking ahead to important dates and deadlines for registration.
The arrival of the new calendar year signals planning for next school year already. In January 2019, students will begin registering for the 2019-20 academic year.

Parents are strongly encouraged to review the information that will be sent next month and carefully select elective choices together with their sons and daughters, as those choices will be permanent once course selection is complete. SSP presentations about elective choices will be conducted to help in the decision-making process for course selection.
