PRESIDENT'S GREETING
Dear Members,
Warm greetings to you all! December is a time to reflect as we approach the year's end. I'd like to express my gratitude to all members of NEPTA for a successful 2018-2019 season so far.
In our September meeting, composer and music educator Wynn-Anne Rossi presented her teaching methods through her compositions. In October, pianist Jiayan Sun shared his view of Fantasieren or Improvisation from C.P.E. Bach and Beethoven. We also hosted two Halloween Piano Recitals in October for students in grades K-5. Many performed in their adorable costumes and were able to enjoy a fun reception afterwards. Our thanks to Jan Spillane for spearheading this event and to Diana Tetzlaff for organizing the reception.
Last month, NEPTA member Janna Bruene discussed sight reading and pedaling at the Fall Teachers' Exchange.
We welcomed our new members at this event and Eric Bowman-Wozencraft, chair of the Teachers' Exchange, helped to arrange the snacks and beverages. Eric even baked and shared his delicious vegan muffins.
During Thanksgiving weekend, Raquel Fisk, a high school senior and student of Niva Fried, performed a piano recital in honor of NEPTA. She showcased her original works of art and her playing was impressive and beautiful. She honored our organization for the invaluable performance experience she gained through the various programs that we offer. I was very touched by her gesture and
am
appreciative that NEPTA is able to support student
s
and teacher
s
alike.
Finally, at our December meeting, we had our Teachers' Master Class with Gilbert Kalish. Mr. Kalish shared many wonderful insights into approaching musical interpretation and technique with our colleagues Sivan Etedgee, Sa Nguyen Thi Uyen, and Natacha Rist. Congratulations to our colleagues for allowing us to learn through their artistry.
For those who were not able to make these meetings, the Speaker Series meeting minutes will be provided on our website soon. Many thanks to Natacha Rist, Recording Secretary for taking notes at the meetings.
As the new year begins, we will be busy with upcoming student recitals and competitions. All of the relevant information is in the Program booklet and on our website (www.nepta.info). As always, I look forward to hearing many of your talented students perform, and I am proud that we have such talented teachers in our organization.
Also please remember to sign up if you want to perform at the NEPTA Members Recital on Sunday, March 10, 2019. The deadline to sign up is December 15th! Details are in the program booklet, page 6. Please note there will be a wine and cheese reception following the performance. Please invite your friends and come support your colleagues!
I'd like to take a moment to thank members and volunteers of NEPTA! Our organization would not be able to achieve its goals without the hard work from our volunteers. With the assistance of generous donations from members of our community, we can achieve more. I hope you will consider donating during this time of thankfulness and giving. Donations can be made online at www.nepta.info. Thank you in advance for your generosity!
I wish you a wonderful holiday with family and friends, filled with peace, love, and good music. Enjoy the festivities of the season! I look forward to seeing you in the new year!
Sincerely,
Ranko Konishi-Houston
President
