From Tr. Neal
Dear Families,

Thank you for attending last night's first-ever virtual Back to School Night. I was particularly pleased that all of us got to "see" all of the adults who enable LFS to function and thrive, even during this pandemic. Whether working in an office, outside around campus, or in a classroom, we all play a key role in creating and sustaining a school community where all kids are challenged, known deeply, and loved as individuals. As I mentioned last night, when children spend every day in a safe, respectful, kind, values-based, purposeful, and innovative community, they develop not only key academic skills, but deep and lasting feelings of respect for themselves, for all people, and for learning itself. I believe that this is the priceless LFS "gift" that sets children up for joy and success throughout their lives.

I also am grateful to the parents who participated in this morning's virtual parent coffee. It's always so helpful for me to have as much direct conversation with families as possible, particularly as I'm just getting to know everyone. Parents' questions, observations, compliments, and concerns teach me so much and enable us to be truly responsive and to tweak our planning where possible. Please keep this link handy for next week's parent coffee. They're scheduled for every Friday at 8:15AM for the foreseeable future.

Over the next week or so, we'll be fine-tuning our plans for returning to campus, and we'll surely be sending more information to you about that.

Please also continue to reach out, and thanks to all for making me feel so welcome in my first months on the job. I couldn't be happier than to be part of this amazing community.

Sincerely,

Tr. Neal

First Gathering with Tr. Jill's 1st and 2nd Graders
Each student wrote and drew their observations of the organisms--from bluish-purple eggs, through hatching, and the voracious eating of the growing creatures. Scientific observation and documentation will lead to identification! Wonderful job, Tr. Jill.

Forms Return
If you haven't completed and submitted the forms that were sent out during the summer, please do so now.  The emergency contact form, the medical information form and the am/pm form must be submitted before your student starts school on campus. If you can't find your packet, these forms are available on the LFS website under Families/School Forms.
Tr. Dee's 3rd Graders Having Fun
Third graders were working on community building activities and games and they took a class picture. It looks pretty fun in 3rd grade! Thanks, Tr. Dee.
Vacation Care Update
In a typical year LFS offers child care throughout the year on many of the days that school is not in session.  We know that families depend on this service.  We'd like to be able to offer Vacation Care this year but only when it is safe and in consultation with the Chester County Health Department.  Right now we are putting vacation care on hold until further notice.
Book Fair
This year, the LFS Book Fair will run virtually for a full week, from
October 5-9.

On October 2, at Gathering Time, there will be a Zoom book talk by Children's Book World, Heather Hebert.

Categories will be similar to the in-person fair, and families can also search by grade.  Books will be hand delivered to each child when we are on campus.

We will send more information and links as we receive them.
Pre-K Days
Helping water the plants, P.E. with Tr. Tony, and marching with Peace Pinwheels for the International Day of Peace--LFS Pre-K is a happening place!

Parent Handbook/Student Directory
The 2020-2021 LFS Parent Handbook/Student Directory is here!  We're sending families an electronic version now and will be including a paper copy in our next school-wide campus distribution.  Please let us know of any corrections or changes as they occur.
School Community Association Meeting
All current LFS Families are invited to join us at the first annual SCA meeting
on 9/30 at 7pm.  Please join us as we discuss plans for the 2020/2021 school year.  We will be discussing a number of important topics, including brainstorming creative ways to stay connected as a community while we are practicing social distancing.  We are also still in need of classroom representative volunteers from all grade levels.
