Dear friends
In March, we joined people of faith all over the world in "sounding the alarm" on climate change and advocating for a change to 100 percent clean, renewable energy available equitably. (See the video we made of Oregon faith communities here.)
Since then, we have been advocating for this just transition to a fossil fuel-free future at the state level through our Creation Justice Advocacy Team, contacting legislators and meeting with them to advocate about HB 2021, 100% Clean Energy for All, and other climate related bills. Please sign up for Interfaith Advocacy Day on May 25, if you haven't already, to speak up to your legislators about climate and environmental justice, as well as other important topics such as housing, hunger, racial justice and immigrant rights.
Now we have another opportunity to get involved: Indigenous activists are inviting people to come to Minnesota to help stop the Line 3 pipeline. Line 3 is a proposed tar sands pipeline by Enbridge that would cross Anishinaabe land (theirs by treaty), endanger waterways as its path crosses 20 rivers—including the Mississippi twice, have the climate impact of 50 coal plants, and would threaten the wild rice that grows only in that region of Minnesota and is considered sacred to the Anishinaabe. This pipeline has received all its state permits, so the action in June will put pressure on President Biden to cancel the pipeline.
We are helping organize an Interfaith Delegation to the Treaty People Gathering to stop Line 3 in Minnesota, June 5–8, along with Minnesota Interfaith Power & Light and GreenFaith. Are you interested in attending? See the schedule and registration link. We are organizing transportation from Oregon, so contact us if you would like more information. Donate here if you can't go—help make scholarships available to those who can.

Ecumenical Ministries of Oregon's Spring Gala, " Light in the Tunnel," was held online on May 19 and featured inspiring ministries happening around the state, both within and outside EMO. Randy and Edith Woodley and their Eloheh Center for Earth Justice were honored with the Ecumenists of the Year Award. EMO's budget funds the work of creation justice and Oregon Interfaith Power & Light, so we invite you to consider donating at the link below to support this work.

"Advocacy through the Lens of Racial Justice" featured panelists Nikita Daryanani from the Coalition of Communities of Color, Miranda Mishan of Native American Youth & Family Center (NAYA), Francis Kham from Immigrant and Refugee Community Organization (IRCO), and Senator Lew Frederick.

Along with Havurah Shalom and EcoFaith Recovery, we hosted a discussion of the film Kiss the Ground about regenerative agriculture, including speakers from Oregon discussing practical ways to incorporate regenerative agriculture at the local level and more broadly. Check out the recording of the discussion, as well as a list of resources.
